stade aline sitoe diatta was built to host the african cup nations held in Senegal in 1992 . located in the northern part of the city of ziguinchor , it has been plagued by its poor pitch , because the stadium was built on what used to be a rice field making it a muddy mess during the rainy season , but recents efforts by local authorities to change the pitch into a synthetic turf paid off, as of january 2007 the change will be made .The stadium was named after a local legend , a diola woman regarded by many as the only woman who stood against the colonialist push into casamance, (the southern province of senegal)
