Stacking may refer to:

  • The Block stacking problem - a puzzle in statics
  • Stacking (air pollution) - Summing repeat air pollution measurements over time to enhance the repeating signal, and minimize the random noise.
  • Stacking (archery) - A rapid increase in archery draw weight in the last few inches of draw.
  • Stacking (boxes) - A box stacker is somebody who spends inordinate amounts of time working and reworking pointless issues or tasks at the expense of actually getting anything done. The term originally derives from warehouse workers who spend disproportionate amounts of time stacking and restacking used boxes in the mistaken belief that it is important to make the most efficient possible use of space.
  • Stacking (canine) - Posed so as to make the most of the dogs appearance for the show ring in a conformation show. Set up.
  • Stacking (cards) - Secretly arranging certain playing cards inside the deck, so that they fall to a certain player during the deal.

  • Stacking (ride) - A term used by roller coaster enthusiasts to describe a delay in operations.
  • Stacking (transportation) - To pile boxes, bags, containers etc. on top of each other.
  • Stacking (undershirt) - A term referring to wearing an undershirt that is longer than your overshirt so that some white undershirt is hanging out the bottom. A very popular style in the "thug" or "gangster" look when wearing a tall-tee that is longer than your jersey/Fubu/Roca Wear shirt.
  • Stacking (water) - Very high hot tub temperatures at the top of the tank caused by increased cycling of the burner or heating elements during short draws of water. Progressive rise in temperature of water in the top of the storage water heater caused by frequent draw-off of small quantities of hot water from the outlet. This situation can occur in gas water heaters where heat is absorbed into the water above the level of the thermostat. Precautions are built into the design of the heater to prevent the water at the top of the cylinder from becoming excessively hot.
  • Stacking (gaming) When a player rejoins a team so that that teams contains more players than the other.
  • Sport stacking (aka Cup stacking) - an individual and team activity played using plastic cups.
