St Salvator's Chapel

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

St Salvator's Chapel (formally The Chapel of St Salvator) is one of two chapels belonging to the University of St Andrews, the other being St Leonard's Chapel. It was founded in 1450, built in the Late Gothic architectural style, and refurbished in the 1680s, 1860s and throughout the 20th century.

Students and members of the town regularly attend its numerous services, including morning prayers, monthly Evensong and, most popularly, Sunday services. Other services are held occasionally to mark graduations and other such occasions, and a large number of the university's alumni hold weddings there. The Chapel has its own choir, led by the university's organist and choirmaster (currently Dr William Stevenson), who also plays the organ along with the Senior Organ Scholar (currently Victoria Westwood).

The name St Salvator is a reference to Jesus Christ.
