St Mary High School is located in the lush green hills of St Mary in a town called Highgate. It is a traditional High school which starts at grades 7 to grades 13. The school uses a selection process to accept students at the grade seven level. students from primary and preparatory schools can hope to become students of St Mary High by taking the GSAT Examination, formerly the Common Entrance Examination. And also by taking the Grade Nine Achievement test.
All students are expected to wear proper attire to school, which for girls is green tunic, with white blouse, and boys Khaki pants and shirt.
They are many Activities to participate in at St Mary High school, School Challenge Quiz, Debating Club, Cadets, Scout, 4H, Key Club, to name a few. Students are expected to join clubs as a part of their educational experience.

As the Motto of St Mary states, "faith and Courage", students are expected to excel in various subject areas, from Lower school, which consists of grades 7 to 9, and Upper school which consists of grades 10 - 13. subjects offered to students are Technical Drawing, Industrial Technology, Mathematics, Physical Education, General Science, Social Studies,Home Economics, Biology, Geography, History, Physics, Food and Nutrition, Clothing and Textiles, Typewriting, Principles of Accounting, Office Practice, Principles of Business, General Paper, English A, and English B, Sociology, Chemistry, Information Technology, Art and Craft,Agricultural Science, and Religious Education.
Students also take the Caribbean Examination Council Exam (CXC), which is and indicator, of what each student as learned during the five year tenure at the institution. Grades of the CXC Exam also indicates which students move on to tertiary institutions, or which students will be permitted to move on to grades 12 and 13. Passing grades are Grades 1 and 2, with 3 been accepted since 1998, (citation needed).
