St Mary’s is a Catholic boarding and day school which welcomes girls from all Christian denominations. It's mission is "to educate each individual to the highest standard through fostering traditional values in the spirit of the gospel."

The school has 325 pupils aged between nine and 18 and is two thirds boarding. Day girls are fully integrated in every aspect of school life. All pupils have responsibilities such as organising outings or events.

Founded in 1946, the school's ethos was based on the life and works of Mary Ward. The School site includes teaching classrooms, dorms and extensive sports facilities.

[edit] Extra-curricular

Spirituality is at the heart of St Mary's and Girls are involved at every level – from formal Masses to simple night prayers. Religion is taught to be relevant and the girls’ faith, active. Many local and international charities are supported by the school and fund raising events are organised by the School to support the charities.

St Mary’s is a real home from home for boarders who enjoy a busy range of extra curricular activities. Rock climbing, sailing, riding or kayaking – weekends are always busy but girls also have time and space to curl up with a book .

We achieve exceptional academic results but school isn’t all about work! Creativity is encouraged and the school fosters a “can do!” attitude. We nurture, enhance and improve all abilities and without the distraction of boys, our girls develop great confidence.

The extensive curriculum supports all skills and talents – we’re strong in the arts and core subjects thanks to the commitment of our dedicated staff. Our dynamic IT team ensures St Mary’s is constantly developing.

Pupils compete at national and county level on the sports field and a 25m indoor pool has just been built. Music is an important part of life at St Mary’s – the £1m complex housing individual practice rooms and a concert hall. Drama and art are also popular with frequent cultural trips.

Each girl matters to us and we have created a strong pastoral structure which ensures each is supported. A happy girl will be successful and personal happiness is at the heart of what we do. We work closely with parents and encourage involvement at every level as a girl progresses and emerges as a strong, articulate and confident woman.
