St Leonards College

St Leonard's College is a school in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia which has two campuses. The main campus is located in Brighton. A smaller campus known as the Cornish Campus is located in Bangholme Melbourne, Victoria, Australia . The Brighton Campus consists of 4000 students and the Cornish Campus conists of only 300.

The school is co-educational, and is well known for its sport and performing arts achievements.

In 2007, St Leonard's College introduced two new houses. McMeekin (purple) and Newman (Aqua) These names were chosen to remember past staff members who were valued highly at the school in the 20th century. These houses will be an addition to the already functioning houses: Allen (Yellow) Cullen (Green) Munro (Blue) and Forster (Red).

The principal of both campuses is Dr. Roger Hayward. Mr. Kerry Bolger is the Head of the Cornish Campus.

In 2004 the Cornish Campus was named most sustainable School of the Year. Since then, the Cornish Campus has built a Sustainability Centre to teach students the importance of personal and global sustainability.It was opened in 2006 by Professor David de Kretser.

In 2007 the Cornish Campus celebrates its 20th year of existence.


On the 3rd of March 2007, Mr. Richard Cornish, former long-serving principal responsible for the purchase of the land where the Cornish Campus now stands, passed away. The school held a memorial service for him on the 10th of March 2007.

In 2005, St Leonards College received widespread media attention as a result of student drug use. A group of year 9 students were found in possession of marijuana whilst on a school trip to Fiji. The school controversially did not turn the students over to the police but were sufficiently dealt with by the school.

The school also has a camp named 'Camp Ibis' in northern Victoria.
