St Helens South and Whiston is a constituency to be represented in the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom. It will elect one Member of Parliament (MP) by the first past the post system of election. The seat has been created during the Boundary Commission for England's review of constituencies.
[edit] Boundaries
Following their review of parliamentary representation in Merseyside, the Boundary Commission for England has created this new constituency. It replaces the current St Helens South seat, covering the south of the Metropolitan Borough of St Helens, but also includes three wards from the Knowsley borough.
The electoral wards forming the new constituency are:
- From Knowsley: Prescot East, Whiston North and Whiston South
- From St Helens: Bold, Eccleston, Rainhill, Sutton, Thatto Heath, Town Centre and West Park.
[edit] Election results
The new St Helens South and Whiston constituency will first be contested at the next general election, expected in 2009 or 2010.
