St George's College, Harare
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
St George's College, based in Harare, Zimbabwe, is a secondary school.
It was founded in 1896 in Bulawayo, the second largest city in what was then Southern Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe) by Fr Marc Barthélemy, a French Jesuit. In 1937 it was moved to Southern Rhodesia's capital of Salisbury, now called Harare, the capital of Zimbabwe. The school has had a long and distinguished history of liberalism and excellence in education, and for many years was one of very few multiracial schools in the then Rhodesia.
Notable alumni include the South African actor/playwright, Andrew Buckland[1], and British labour politician Richard Lyon-Dalberg-Acton, 4th Baron Acton.
In 2003 it was rated by Africa Almanac as the fifth best secondary school in Africa. [2]
