[edit] Location

It is located on the western border of the suburb of Florey. The school was founded in 1976, originally just as a high school (serving years 7-10), and officially opened by Archbishop Cahill on 1977-09-24. In 2002 the College graduated its first year 12 students. The college is one of the four Catholic Archdiocesan secondary schools in the ACT. It is located on a large corner block, across the road from Saint John the Apostles Primary School, and bounded by Barnard Circuit and Kingsford Smith drive. The reference in the ACT Yellow pages is Map 37.

[edit] Refurbishment and facilities

In recent years the College has undergone some major refurbishments and improvements to the facilities. It now has a updated Resources center, a new Maths block, Industrial technology and Food and Fabric areas, a theater, a gymnasium, an oval, basketball and tennis courts, three dedicated computer labs and computing break-out areas.

[edit] WasteWise

SFXC moved steps closer to a sustainable school through the cardboard paper recycling bins, of which there is at least one in every class room, the Blue and Red recycling bins - placed strategically around the school, routine decontamination, an Earthmaker organic compost system, integrated Waste Wise and Sustainability education for new and current students and a new Worm farm so that food scraps such as fruit and vegetable peels, egg shells, garden waste and other organic materials can be recycled.

The fundamental principles of WasteWise are: Avoid, Rethink, Re-use, Recycle. St Francis Xavier College tries to heavily incorporate this into the College and find ways that students can implement WasteWise solutions at home and look at ways of reducing unnecessary landfill-bound material.

Recently Saint Francis received a A.C.T NoWaste award, which is an award given by the ACT government to organizations with very good no-waste programs.

And we also Recently became the First High School/College in Canberra to be Officialy Wastewise Accreted
