St Edward's School (also colloquially known as "Teddies") is a co-educational public school (that is, an independent, fee-charging secondary school) in North Oxford, England, on the Woodstock Road. It is a boarding school and has 11 boarding houses, 7 for boys and 4 for girls. There are 5 year groups ranging from 13 to 18 year olds. Since 1998, it has been fully co-educational. Prior to that there was a period where there were girls only in the last two year groups (the sixth form) and originally the school was for boys only.
The school was founded in 1863 by the Rev. Thomas Chamberlain, student of Christ Church, Vicar of St Thomas the Martyr, in Mackworth Hall then standing on this site. The school was moved to Summertown in 1873 by the Rev. A. B. Simeon, first Warden. The school remains on the site today, with the Woodstock Road separating the Quad from the playing fields.
In 2005, the school was involved in a fee fixing scandal and fined by the Office of Fair Trading. [1]
The school is also home to the Esporta Health and Raquets Club.

[edit] Houses and Facilities
There are seven Boys Houses: Field House, Sing's and Kendall, located on the field side of the school, and Apsley, Tilly's, Segar's and Cowell's, on the quad side. These are largely named after ex-headmasters (or Wardens).
The four Girls Houses are: Avenue and Corfe on the field side and Macnamara's and Oakthorpe on the quad Side. Of the Girls Houses, Corfe and Macnamara's were originally home to boys but were changed in the late 1990s.
Each house is run by Housemaster or mistress who is a member of the teaching staff at the school and lives in the boarding house with their family. Each house also has a set of House Tutors who supervise Prep (homework) during the week and also tutor members of the house. A pastoral house matron also lives in each boarding house looking after pupils' medical (and often social) needs.
