St Anne's School, Townsville

St. Anne's Church of England Girls School was located in Walker Street, Townsville.
The School was established in 1917 as St Anne's, a girls' school operated by the Sisters of the Society of the Sacred Advent . 1977 the Sisters departed, and the school came under the control of the Anglican Diocese of North Queensland . The first lay principal was appointed in 1978, and the school soon became co-educational and assumed its new name.
The original school operated in the Synod Hall adjacent to St James Cathedral, but soon moved to its own premises on the site which is now occupied by the Townsville City Council (Walker St)
During World War II the school was acquired by Captain Melloy of Hirings Section, No. 1 Lines of Communication (No. 1 L of C) of the Australian Army for use as barracks accommodation for the Women's Auxiliary Australian Air Force (WAAAF).
Mr. E.C. (Cec) Smith, the Registrar for the Anglican Diocese of North Queensland handled the negotiations with the military authorities.
The girls that were previously at the school were evacuated to Ravenswood until such time that the WAAAF had finished using the premises in 1944/45.
The school is now known as The Cathedral School of St. Anne and St. James and in 1958 has relocated to Ross River Road Aitkenvale.
