St. Williams, Ontario

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

St. Williams is a small hamlet that is an excellent community for fishing in Norfolk County, Ontario, Canada. The lakeside community is located 30 minutes south of Pine Grove. The nearby woods to the north form the historical Spooky Hollow where local children are told every Halloween about the Headless Horseman (and other scary folk stories!) of Norfolk County. The 2006 St. Williams peewee baseball team #1 team placed second to Scotland's #2 baseball team.

St. Williams is about half an hour from both Simcoe and Tillsonburg. It is a small place, referred to as a village, with a population of approximately 400 people. In the summer, residents enjoy boating, hiking and baseball, in addition to country jamborees and gardening. St. Williams plays host for ice fishers from all over Ontario as cold winters promise tons of bites. Residents are also known to love the outdoors and can often be seen on their snowmobiles and ATVs.

The reforestry farm is an amazing forest station that residents pride themselves in. Not only a great hiking spot, but also an environmentally friendly operation, this place is great for long walks with family. Backus Mill is located close by and it is popularized as being one of the only mills left standing after the War of 1812. Tourists can enjoy Backus, just outside of St. Williams on the way to Port Rowan, all year round with hiking, sledding, camping and discovering the history of the mill. St. Williams has two convenience stores, a post office, a fire station, a book shop, a cute craft store and coat dockage and is a wonderful place to explore.
