St. Simon was a British Thoroughbred racehorse and the most successful sire in the history of the thoroughbred.

  • Lived: 1881-April 2,1908
  • Height: 16.1 hh
  • Place of Birth: William Barrow's Paddocks, England

St. Simon won all 10 of his races, including the Ascot Gold Cup by 20 lengths. He won this so easily that he continued running for another mile before agreeing to be pulled up. He is generally considered to be one of the greatest racehorses ever seen.

He was a very successful sire and Champion Sire in Britain nine times. He sired 10 classic winners including Diamond Jubilee (winner of England's Triple Crown), La Fleche (Fillies' Triple Crown) and Persimmon (Great sire, winner of Derby, 2000 Guineas, and Ascot Gold Cup). His skeleton belongs to the British Museum of Natural History.

In the Sporting Times ranking of the Top 10 Great Britain Racehorses of the 19th Century (1887), St. Simon was ranked #4. In addition, St. Simon is the first on the list of Chef de Race.
