St. Pats Socialist Students Federation
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
St. Pats Socialist Students Federation (SPSSF) was a Left-wing student organization formed in 1985 by a group of disgruntled Socialist and Marxist activists of National Students Federation(NSF). The SPSSF was first given shape by NSF leaders at Saint Patricks Government College in Karachi, Pakistan, especially by Nadeem F. Paracha, Ali Kazmi and Umair Chapra. These student leaders had accused NSF's top leadership of failing to do enough to tackle the emergence of Right-wing student groups and the Islamist dictatorship of Mohammad Zia-ul-Haq. SPSSF organized a series of protests against the dictatorship and especially against a number of right-wing Professors at the college. Many of these protests turned violent when SPSSF workers started to attack vehicles belonging to the Government and the Army. SPSSF faded away after its main leadership left the college in early 1987 with Nadeem F. Paracha and Ali Kazmi starting Pakistan's first Anarchist newsletter, The Arousal.
