St. Patrick's Hall

St. Patrick's Hall is the second oldest hall of residence at the University of Reading (England), being founded in 1912 (some fourteen years before the University received its Charter). The only older hall is Wantage Hall, built four years earlier, and the rivalry between the first two Halls continues in a friendly way to this day.

St Patrick's (affectionately referred to as St Pat's by residents), is situated just off the main Whiteknights campus, on a self-contained site adjacent to Sherfield Hall and within a 5 minutes walk to the University Health Centre, Reading Student Village and the local shops (Threshers being one of the most popular), as well as bus stops and the Shinfield Road entrance to the Whiteknights campus.

The Hall is split into two buildings. Pearsons Court is the oldest part of the Hall, and is regarded as one of the most picturesque of the University. It houses mainly returning students as they complete their degree. It is undergoing a major internal renovation over the next few years. The much newer (and aptly named) New Court was a creature of the 1960's, but does have a leafy and popular quad. It houses the 'Freshers' when they first arrive and always has a lively, fun and friendly atmosphere to match. It too was modernised in 2001, making the Hall one of the most popular in the University.
