St. Mac Dara's Community College

St. Mac Dara's Community College(Irish:Coláiste Pobail Mhic Dara Naofa) is a co-ed school situated on Wellington Lane, Orwell, Templeogue in South Dublin. It is restricted to secondary level education and accommodates both Junior Certificate and Leaving Certificate students and is a non-fee paying school. It has a Transition Year programme which usually restricted to one class, with a maximum of thirty students per year, though there have been two classes of up to thirty students each when required. The school also has a lot of sports and extra curricular activities for it's students to choose from including gaelic football, hurling, soccer, rugby, basketball, golf and canoeing.

The school regularly hosts trips and foreign exchange programmes to different countries. Past trips have included Honduras/Nicaragua, France, Scotland, Germany, Italy(skiing), Spain, and for the first time in the school's history, they will be hosting 2 skiing trips to Sweden. One of these trips will take place during February, while the other in March, both accommodating for 40 students each. The February trip was ledge!!

St Mac Dara's enjoys numerous facilities such as 5 Science Labs (1 which has been newly refurbished), over 40 Different Classrooms, 3 Home-Economics Rooms with essential Appliances, 2 woodwork and also 2 engineering rooms, 1 Computer Room and 2 Technical Graphics Room. St Mac Dara's recently constructed a separate P.E Hall on the school grounds which comes with shower room and a full Gym.

In october 2007 theschool was chosen from hundreds in the area to be used to shoot an importatnt scene in the main stream movie `BOG BODY``! THE film which sees `TITANIC` stars face a 2000 year old mummy used room p4 as a college labarotry!! over 30 students ( all 4th and 5th years) were used in this scene!!

[edit] Stabbing Incident
On the 9th of February the school hit Irish Newspaper headlines over a stabbing incident which took place within the school in which a 16 year old boy stabbed a fellow student (aged 17) in the chest and in the stomach. It is not believed that the stabbing was bullying-related. (headline link forthcoming)
