St. Louis Community College is the Missouri two-year college supported by the Junior College District of St. Louis – St. Louis County. There are three campuses, built simultaneously in 1962: Florissant Valley (in Ferguson), Forest Park (in St. Louis), and Meramec (in Kirkwood). A fourth campus, Wildwood (in Wildwood) will begin admitting students in August 2007 for the Fall semester. In addition, there are four satellite facilities throughout the area.
The college grants Associate in Arts (A.A.) and Associate in Applied Science (A.A.S.) degrees, as well as Certificates of Proficiency (for completing a specified one-year course of study) and Certificates of Specialization (for completing a specified six-month course of study).
The three campuses were originally known as Florissant Valley Community College, Forest Park Community College, and Meramec Community College. The name change to St. Louis Community College–Campus Name was adopted by college district administration over the objections of the student body and faculty in 1977.[citation needed]
