St. Joseph High School, referred to as St. Joes by the local community is a Catholic high school run by the Ottawa-Carleton Catholic School Board. It currently serves students in grades 7-12 serving around 1600 students and around 140 teachers.

The school is quite large for a high school. It has 3 floors, 2 gymnasiums (one being a woodfloor gym), 4 changerooms,and around 1600 lockers. There are 18 portables outside as there is a shortage in classroom space. The school also has large grounds with 2 football fields, basketball nets and a track.

St. Joseph High School was founded in 2002 in order to provide an adequate school capacity for the growing community of Barrhaven, a suburb of Ottawa, Ontario. Prior to its construction, Barrhaven was served by only one Catholic secondary school, that being Mother Teresa High School. In the 2005-2006 school year, Saint Joseph received its first mascot, a jaguar which the students named "McJagger".

[edit] Annual events

The Jag-Jog is an annual walk/run held by St. Joe's in order to raise money for new gym equipment. The walk takes place south down Greenbank road, then turning west along Cambrian road, before returning along the same route.

The Arts for Epilepsy Gala is an annual show put on by performing artists at St. Joes in order to raise funds to support epilepsy research.

The Epilepsy Breakfast is a breakfast held at the school by a teacher whose child suffers from severe epilepsy. Students pay to miss the first or second(if you are grade 7/8)class of the day and enjoy a breakfast cooked at the school in the cafeteria. All proceeds go to epilepsy research.

The Read-a-thon is an annual event to raise money for the school's library. The first 100 students (100 for high school and 7/8) can bring in at least $20 to particpate. For the chosen day the students are allowed to spend the whole day in the library reading. All the money raised goes towards the school library for the new books, computers ect.

The Jaguars are known for their commitment and success in sports. St. Joseph hosts many extra-curricular sports including football, soccer, basketball, baseball, handball, golf, hockey, track and field, cheerleading and much more. St. Joseph also hosts lunch time intramurals for grade seven and eight including dodgeball, football and floor hockey.
