St John Fisher Catholic High School is a mixed comprehensive secondary school located in Beech Hill, Wigan. It is named after the Catholic martyr John Fisher.

Its pupils number around 900, aged from 11 to 16. The schools performs well in league tables compared to other local schools. The school has a strong sporting tradition, particularly in Rugby League. In the late 1990s/early 2000s one years' team went unbeaten for 5 years, earning a place in the Guinness Book of Records. The schools sporting alumni include Wigan Rugby League players Shaun Edwards and Billy Joe Edwards, who was tragicaly killed in a traffic accident in 2003[1]. Current Wigan Rugby League players Joel Tomkins and Chris Ashton also attended the school.

'Learning together as a community in Christ'


The school recently heald a competition amongst its student body to create a new mission statement, to either complement or replace the existing one. The new mission statement was created in summer 2005, the new mission statement is, "learning together as a community in christ". This was created by an elected group of students.

The school recently has recently been awarded performing arts college status. The school has also had a new state of the art performing arts suite built, consisting of music and drama suites.
