St. George's Church, Aruvithura

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

St. George's Church, Aruvithura is one of the most ancient churches in the Indian state of Kerala. It is traditionally held to have been founded by St. Thomas in the early days of Christianity, although the oldest parts of the current building only date to the 16th century.

Aruvithura is 35km east of Kottayam and is part of the diocese of Pala, of which the traditional rite is East Syrian.

The annual feast is dedicated to St. George, the patron saint of the church, and has all the regular festivities, rituals and features typical of church feasts in Kerala.
