St. Elizabeth Medical Center (Lafayette, Indiana)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
St. Elizabeth Medical Center is a 159-bed hospital in Lafayette, Indiana, owned by the not-for-profit Greater Lafayette Health Services, Inc., a division of Sisters of St. Francis Health Services, Inc. It was founded in 1876 by six members of the Sisters of St. Francis of Perpetual Adoration who arrived from Germany the previous year. In 1897, the hospital inaugurated the St. Elizabeth School of Nursing.
Greater Lafayette Health Services announced in late 2005 a plan to close both St. Elizabeth and Home Hospital, and construct a new facility to replace them on the city's east side. Work on the new facility commenced in late 2006, with occupation planned to occur in 2009. Plans for how the Saint Elizabeth complex will be used once the new one is complete are still being considered.
