St. Bartholomew's Anglican Church (Ottawa)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
St. Bartholomew's Anglican Church is an Anglican Church in Ottawa, Canada. It is named for St. Bartholomew. The parish was founded in 1866 with the church being completed in 1868. Its architect is uncertain but believed to be Thomas Seaton Scott who did a number of other prominent Ottawa structures. The Church is located at 125 MacKay Street in the New Edinburgh neighbourhood. The church is located just across the street from Rideau Hall and was for generations the place of worship for Canada's Governor Generals. A pew is still reserved for the Governor General, though she or he is not these days always an Anglican. (The most recent Anglican Governor-General was Adrienne Clarkson). The pastor at St. Bartholomew's is Reverend Sharon Schollar who started her position on January 2006.
St. Bartholomew's Anglican Church is spnsoring 16 orphaned girls to complete their education. There is another girl who got pregnant and is getting help by the church for her to complete her education, she was originally part of the St. Mary's Project to help the girls complete their education. The 17 girls live in Hlotse, Lesotho. The sponsorship is helped by the organization Help Lesotho. David Anderson and Elizabeth May are mentors with the St. Mary's Project.
