[edit] History
St. Augustine's RC High School was founded in August 1969, from the merger of Holy Cross Academy, established 1907, and St Andrew's Junior Secondary, established 1962. St Augustine's moved to its present site on the west of Edinburgh in October 1969.
The school, named after St Augustine, is open to people of all religions, many of which are represented within the student body.
[edit] Future
Construction on a new building for St Augustine's will begin in 2006 with completion scheduled for July, 2008. The new design will be based on a starburst pattern containing one building with a large cafeteria in the middle section. The new design will also contain a soundproof exam room which can only be accessed from outside.
[edit] School Philosophy and Educational support
The philosophy of the school is best expressed by its "one main aim":
- "to provide for its students education of an assured quality within a caring, Christian community in which all individuals are given the opportunity to develop their full potential."
Additionally, the school has recognised that anyone can have difficulty learning any subject and that it is the responsibility of all staff members to assure that all students master the subject matter. The philosophy behind this is called the "Whole School Responsibility".

[edit] Support for Learning and Addressing Special Needs
St Augustine's has a Support for Learning program that is designed to assist students who have learning difficulties or special needs. The staff of the Support for Learning department have specialised training that allows them to determine the best methods of assisting students with learning needs, with both Learning Assistants and volunteer prefects providing additional support for the department. Both one-on-one tutoring and in-class assistance are provided depending on the needs of the student.
In such cases where the needs of a student are significant, they are given an official Record of Needs[1]. These students are the first to be considered when the Support for Learning staff decide their priorities.
