Støvring

Støvring is a municipality in North Jutland County in the geographic region of the Jutland peninsula known as Himmerland in northern Denmark. The municipality covers an area of 220 km², and has a total population of 13,057 (2005). Its mayor is Anny Winther, a member of the Venstre (Liberal Party) political party.

The main town and the site of its municipal council is the town of Støvring. As of January 1st 2004 the town has 6181 inhabitants. The town of Støvring is one of the centres of industry and retailing in the area.

Neighboring municipalities are Arden and Skørping to the east, Aalborg to the northeast, Nibe to the northwest, Aars to the west, and Nørager to the south.

By January 1, 2007 Støvring municipality will cease to exist as the result of Kommunalreformen ("The Municipality Reform" of 2007). It will be merged with existing Nørager and Skørping municipalities to form the new Rebild municipality. This will create a municipality with an area of 628 km² and a total population of 28,457 (2005). The new municipality will belong to the new Region Nordjylland ("North Jutland Region").
