Sripatum University, based in Bangkok, is one of the oldest and most prestigious private universities in Thailand.

The university was founded on 28 May 1970 by Dr. Sook Pookayaporn under the name Thai Suriya College. The name Sripatum, meaning "Source of Knowledge Blooming Like a Lotus", was conferred on the college by the Princess Mother, who presided over the first, second and third graduation ceremonies and delegated Professor Sanya Thammasak, then the president of the King's Privy Council, to preside over the fourth to the tenth graduation ceremonies.
