Tiwari is considered a legend in Rewa, the outpost of eastern Madhya Pradesh. A freedom fighter turned politician he has been MLA and Minister in MP govt right from the very beginning in 1956 since MP state was formed.At that time he was one of the youngest member of legislative assembly in the state . A well known Political figure at the state and the national level ,he gave the rewa region a distinct identity. He is one of the most respected brahmin leaders in the region which has particularly high number of brahmins with rewa being the parliamentary costituency with the highest no. of brahmin voters in india .
A local saying goes: “Dada nahin, dau hain, vote pade nahin, tau hain (He’s not a grandpa but god, even if votes are not cast, he wins).” often called safed sher (white tiger) because of his white hair and eyebrows. Ex MP CM ,Digvijay Singh is Tiwari’s old associate. During his 10-year stint as chief minister, he used Tiwari to neutralise Arjun Singh in Vindhya Pradesh region like in Rewa,Satna,Sidhi and Shahdol region.He draws extreme reaction in rewa with people either totally against him or completely behind him .He also spearheads the movement for a separate vindhya pradesh state,but the movement is yet to gather momentum.
Shriyut Sriniwas tiwari was a renouned lawyer of his time and is recognized for his deep understanding of law . every year his birthday is celebrated in rewa with great fanfare with tens of thousands of people taking part in the celebrations .
In his early eighties ,he doesn't show much signs of slowing down .With state elections due in 2008 ,expections are high and people can't wait for him to be at the place he so highly deserves.
