Sri Jayachamarajendra College of Engineering (SJCE), located in Mysore, was established in the year 1963 under the aegis of JSS Mahavidyapeetha. It has carved a niche for itself as a premier centre of Technical Education. Sophisticated laboratories, libraries, highly qualified & experienced faculty, staff members and a well-designed college campus has made this institution a success.
The College is Affiliated to Visvesvaraya Technological University Belgaum and Governed by the Grant-in-Aid rules of the Government of Karnataka.
It has been approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and accredited by the National Board of Accreditation (NBA) and has been awarded with an 'A' grade for five of its departments. It has been selected as a lead institute for assistance by the World Bank under TEQIP Scheme of the Government of India.

[edit] Beginnings
Sri Jayachamarajendra College of Engineering was started in the year 1963, which was inaugurated by Dr T M A Pai, who was the then Chairman of the Academy of Education, Manipal. Initially it was under the auspices of the JSS Mahavidyapeetha, with the divine inspiration of His Holiness Jagadguru Lingaikya Dr Sri Sri Shivarathri Rajendra Mahaswamigalavaru of Suttur Matt. Courses in Civil, Mechanical and Electrical Engineering branches were started first. In 1968 the first batch of Students as Engineering Graduates came out.
[edit] Over The Years
SJCE is the first college in Karnataka to introduce Electronics and Communication branch of engineering in the year 1968.Then followed Bachelor's degree in Instrumentation in the year 1978, Computer Science and Engineering during 1982, Information Science and Engineering in the year 2000. Many Undergraduate and Post Graduate courses were also started. The college has been securing very good results successively in the examinations held by Visvesvaraya Technological University, Belgaum.
With a number of well-equipped laboratories in various fields of Science and Engineering, the college undertakes several development activities. Facilities including excellent Computer Centre, Library, Work Shops etc are provided for research programs leading to M.Sc (Engg) and Ph. D in Electrical Sciences, Mathematics, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Polymer Science and Technology are available. The college has been identified as one of the Centres of the Network scheme envisaged by the Government of India, thus enabling active interactions with institutions such as the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. The college maintains a host of Computer Systems throughout the campus and operates 24X7 basis. Internet facility is also provided. SJCE maintains Student - Faculty - Management relationship in a good way. Thus the college has carved a niche for itself as a premier centre for Technical Education.

[edit] Accessibility
Frequent buses are available to the College from almost all the major residential areas. State Government Buses(129 and 130) ply through the campus at frequencies of about 20 minutes. The buses start from 6.30 a.m to the campus and till 10.00 p.m they are available to the college campus. The campus is accessible by several bus routes. Special peak hour services are also operated by the State Transport Corporation. Commuting by auto rickshaws and taxicab is also possible.But since we dont actually teach anything here
its such a shame we have all the above mentioned facilities.

[edit] Library And Information Centre
Library, being one of the very important organs of the system, is the centre of all activities on the Campus. The centre is equipped with over 70,000 volumes covering all branches of Science and Engineering, Encyclopaedias, Dictionaries, Hand Books, Data Books etc. and over a hundred magazines and journals every month. It has adopted open access system and maintains author, title, subject and series catalogues to provide multiple access to the stack. It also has a fairly good collection of ISI specifications, Project Reports and Dissertations, Doctoral Thesis and Proceedings of Conferences and Monographs. The centre is catering to the needs of the students, faculty and research scholars. Further library provides audio visual facilities, photo copying facilities, book bank facilities etc.
[edit] AUDITORIUM
SJCE maintains a well-equipped auditorium Hall, which can accommodate 100 persons. Complete with Videorama, Slide Projector, LCD & Overhead Projector, Sound System etc., it proves ideal for seminars, meetings, group use of audiovisual material, etc.
[edit] Physical Education
SJCE believes physical fitness to the students forms a part of education. So SJCE gives prominence for sports and physical education. A well-equipped gymnasium with multigym facilities is available for daily exercises, which is kept open from 6 a.m. for interested students. A standard football, hockey, cricket ground, basketball court, tennis court, and volleyball courts have been maintained by the Department of Physical Education. Outdoor and indoor recreation facility is available both during and after college hours, in its sports complex building. The sports council is conducting annual sports every year. Inter collegiate and VTU Tournament are also organized.

The College has separate hostel facilities for about 440 boys and 210 girls. The boys' hostel is located at the college premises, in several blocks. The hostel runs a mess with a modern steam-operated kitchen, food is steam cooked and vessels are steam-dried to ensure adequate hygiene. A separate TV room and reading room are provided in the Boys' Hostel. Initial deposit amount for admission in hostel has to be made. Hostel seats are limited and the allotment of seats is done based on the need of the candidates. The girls hostel is also located in the campus.

A Health Care Unit has been provided on the campus with a qualified physician. The centre is supported with necessary equipment and medicines. The centre works between 10.00 a.m and 2.00 p.m on all working days.

SJCE offers scholarships and awards to deserved and eligible students for their future education and benefits based on their performance. The eligible students can apply for fee concession/scholarship in the prescribed application form available in the scholarship section. The college has instituted Medals and Cash awards several endowment scholarships are also available.

SJCE Placement And Training Centre arranges for training during vacation for students to undergo Industrial Training in various Industries throughout the country. It is useful for students to select industrially oriented projects as a part of their B.E/M.Tech Course. This centre also arranges programmes of career guidance, mock interviews etc, to assist students in preparing for test, interviews and GD's
.
Numerous companies visit SJCE every year to recruit students. The highest paying jobs are provided by companies like Microsoft, HP, Talisma, Flextronics, Intel, Texas Instruments, IBM, Oracle, Siemens, Ittiam, Honeywell, Infineon, Delphi, Philips, Cisco, AMD, Yahoo! and Analog Devices
[edit] Science and Technology Entrepreneurs Park
The college has evolved an innovative programme called Product Development Centre. This centre identifies some of the students’ projects, which are commercially viable and develop them into prototypes and test for reliability. The product is offered to the students, employees or even outsiders for being commercially exploited.
SJCE-STEP - The SJCE Science and Technology Entrepreneurs Park was established with the sponsorship of Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, Industrial Development Bank of India (IDBI), Department of Science and Technology, Government of Karnataka and Sri Jayachamarajendra College of Engineering. Some of the activities of STEP are in the areas of Entrepreneurship Development Programmes, Technology Transfer, Mass Employment Generation through Science and Technology, Information Centre etc. SJCE-STEP is one of the first 3 STEPs and has been accredited as the BEST STEP among the 14 STEPs established across the country. STEP SJCE provides services in the areas of Entrepreneurship, Skill Development, Consultancy and Continuing Education Programmes.
Innovative projects such as industrial design of a small Electronic Exchange equipment, cordless microphone, electronic choke for fluorescent lamps have been successfully completed. In collaboration with the Community Polytechnic, STEP is engaged in technology transfer to rural areas. About 350 smokeless chulas have been installed, besides putting up several biogas plants.
The Information Centre established by STEP offers its membership to industries. Reference volume standards, different types of Hand Books, Information on Industrial Policy, Industrial licensing etc., are available. Besides these, a computer data bank on Expert resources, Manufacturers Index, Supplier Index, etc. has established to cater to the members. The Information Centre is hooked up to the National Informatics Network through a NICNET terminal. The SJCE-STEP is now establishing a Quality Assurance Centre, in order to cater to the growing requirements of local Industries.
[edit] Extra Curricular Activities
The college has one of the best quiz clubs (Wekuiz) in Karnataka. The SJCE students have twice won (2001 and 2002) the Times of India Ascent Quiz conducted by the Times Group. The college IEEE and CSI branches are extremely active. But we did not give any holidays for cyberia because we dont want our students improving their technical skills,all we expect from students is to sit and rot in the class listning to the sorrowful lectures given by the so called professors.
Ieee and Csi used to conduct several weekly events ranging from technical tests to workshops, which greatly benefitted the student.'. They also conduct annual technical fests which are attended by people from all over the nation. The official college magazine editorial board is very active and keeps churning out creative masterpieces year after year. Their magazine 'JayZine' is a beacon of creativity and imagination. They also organize an yearly literary extravaganza 'Shabd' . The college annual fest 'Jayciana' is one of the best cultural events in the state.
