"Maypole" dancers at the Kataragama Perahera (religious procession), Sri Lanka 2005. The man in the foreground is carrying a beacon of blazing coconut shells to illuminate the procession. Note: The "maypole" was being carried in the procession so the whole dance was moving along. M & R Sheppard, 2005.
