SR Z Class

The Southern Railway Class Z was an 0-8-0 3-cylinder side tank engine designed by Richard Maunsell and intended for heavy shunting. Only eight Class Z locomotives were built, the first entering into service in 1929. The large boiler was rated at 180 lbf/in² (1.2 MPa).
For some reason they were given regulators that worked in the opposite way to the norm, and this caused problems among crews that were unfamiliar with the design.
None survived into preservation.
