Squeak and Box

I am a British forty-something ex-pat from Southern England who for some years has been living on the edge of a Caribbean city in mainland Latin America. I have been contributing as an editor since October 2004. My Latina wife has also contributed with photos for various articles using this account. Squeak and Box are our dogs. Esmeralda and Rubí are our cats. Cookita died tragically, almost certainly from eating rat poison, leaving 4 tiny kittens but they are taking milk for a bottle and appear to be thriving. I work in the search industry, managing an offshore registered company called TV Genius, which is the affiliate of a UK company of the same name. I also collaborate with a team in Mumbai, India. We work vertically and are trying to build the best quality internet tv and video clip collection in the world using xml. Xml is pretty easy to write, its mostly just a matter a copy and paste, in my opinion the most significant human invention since printing, and bug fixing with grep which can search and replace regular expressions in a large number of files. IMO what wikipedia most lacks is a search mechanism for the text within the html text we actually edit here. Its a real pain to have to search text by eye and I recommend everyone to use find CtrlF to search irregular expressions to find for what you want in web pages, very much including wikpedia pages. You might be slow at the start but it is a rewarding art. I have put an es-5 box precisely because I need to communicate reasonably complex computer tasks to employees who only speak Spanish, hence my use is professional as well as personal. I am still learning new things and ironing out my Spanish mistakes daily (eg ya voy a venir) though I still think in English for the most part. I cycle most days, como siempre.

My greatest achievements here so far have been elevating His Imperial Majesty Haile Selassie I of Ethiopia to the status of Almighty God and saving Javier Solana from being cast in the role of the Devil. I am also mentioned at Daniel Brandt's hivemind page supposedly for having compared him to both Britney Spears and Jesus. He claims I am motivated by trying to save the world by keeping the Brandt article from being improperly deleted. I have learnt the importance of titles, both for articles and for section titles, in my job. I also know its the first few sentences that are by far the most important in any article. I am very interested in ideas concerning technological singularity, the evidences pointing towards this grow daily. As a result we truly are living in the end times. I don't like socialist ideologies. I believe the Chinese have the right approach to the Third World, instead of offering charity and harping on about the lack of human rights they are out there investing, building infrastructure and creating jobs. That, not the moralising charitable approach of the anglo-saxon world that will bring real growth in the poorer parts of the world. Latin America needs westerners bringing jobs and investment not charities.

When I was a young man the authorities in my town had the bright idea of closing down the pub where Friday and Saturday nights were devoted to roots reggae music as a way of stopping the flourishing cannabis trade. This was back in the eighties, and as we all know the trade in cannabis flourished more than ever, as of course it did in every British city and town, but it meant no more reggae nights, and actually this was pretty much the only multiracial event in the town. And the town is now notorious for racial problems. Talk about a lot of plonkers who gave and executed the orders for that one, doubtless retired now and sitting comfortably on their fat pensions while worrying about terrorism.

Boddhi enseńa los dientes. Ten cuidado

Boddhi was born on August 25, 1994 in Totnes and died on November 13, 2003 in Puerto San José after a short illness while we travelled in Guatemala. He is sorely missed. He was the most incredibly well trained and bright dog. Our favourite shared activity was cycling up to 30 miles along the pavements of busy roads in England. Shakti, a great friend of Boddhi, lived with me for 8 years but now lives happily near London with my brother and is called Shit Cat. .
