This term comes from the junction of the terms "square" and "oval." The not quite oval, not quite square shape of a fingernail or toenail. This style was popular in the 90's, and is still a popular natural nail shape.

Squoval also refers to a style of haircut. Short hair can be cut near the neckline in "squoval" fashion at the corners near the shoulders.
