[edit] Plot

Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details follow.

After failing a test in Squirrel Language Skills class, Kuzco is told to remain behind afterwards. Mr. Moleguaco assigns him a tutor: Bucky the squirrel, stepping out of his usual cameo slot into the limelight. Kuzco is to spend 24 hours with Bucky so as to immerse himself in the squirrel way of life. Malina lends Kuzco her English-Squirrel dictionary, and agrees to a study date with him. Yzma decides to eliminate Bucky in order to prevent Kuzco passing the class, although Kronk refuses to partake in even a nonlethal attack on the little fellow. She plots to use a tainted acorn to put him to sleep.

Kuzco eschews Bucky in favour of preparing for his study date, going so far as to clobber him with Malina's dictionary. The squirrel comes across the acorn that Yzma has planted, and is rendered unconscious by its effects. Kuzco assumes that he is responsible, and panics, hiding Bucky and the dictionary before letting Malina in. His suspicious behaviour leads Malina to find the squirrel. Their ensuing squabble leads to Bucky being thrown from the window. He lands in the road, in the path of a moving mango cart. Kuzco goes to rescue him, but falls and is trapped in a tree stump.

Bucky regains consciousness, but doesn't realise what is happening. Kuzco manages to remember enough squirrel speak to warn him in time. This spurs him on to learn enough in order to pass his retest.

Spoilers end here.

[edit] Trivia

  • UK Premiere: 5 May 2006
  • The title is a parody of the 1989 movie Weekend at Bernie's.
  • Squirrel speak was first used in The Emperor's New Groove, by Kronk and the other Junior Chipmunks.
  • Ironically, Bucky's vocalisations bear no resemblance whatsoever to the human-spoken "squirrel speak".
  • Among the foods with which Yzma wants to poison Bucky is a shiny red apple. She describes it as "too wicked witchy", a reference to the evil plot in Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs
  • Kuzco gets turned into: Nothing.
  • "Pull the lever" gag: Nothing happens. Yzma suggests they take the stairs. They arrive in usual lab attire.
  • Bucky appears: as Kuzco's tutor. So throughout most of the episode.
  • "Kuzco's doodles": Kuzco describes Bucky's being thrown from the window into the road, before an oncoming cart.
