The following comment:

A fun fact: during The Civil War in the US Marine corp, it was taboo for a Marine to not have a sling for his Springfield. Officers were instructed to watch these troops like you would the suicidal.

in this article ... doesn't make a lot of sense. What was the problem with the sling? What is meant by "these troops" and why were they watched so carefully? I found some clear vandalism on this page and corrected it, maybe this is somebody's idea of a gag.
