Sprain Brook Parkway

The Sprain Brook Parkway is a part of the New York State highway system. It is a north-south highway in Westchester County, New York. The Sprain's southern terminus is at the Bronx River Parkway in Yonkers while its northern terminus is located at the meeting of several highways in Hawthorne. The road is unsigned New York State Reference Route 987F and is 12.65 miles in length.

The Sprain Brook Parkway is named because it travels through Sprain Ridge Park. About midway, the divided highway straddles Grassy Sprain Reservoir (northbound traffic traveling on the east side, southbound traffic on the west). It is one of if not the most recently built and has the most modern design of the parkways in Westchester County, adopting many ideas and improvements developed during decades of statewide highway construction.

The Sprain begins just south of the Taconic State Parkway's interchange with the Saw Mill River Parkway, and the two highways are often thought of as being one and the same, just having different names for Northern Westchester and Southern Westchester. In actuality, they were built as completely separate highways, and at the time of building, the southern section of the Taconic kept its name, but few signs still show the name today (it is usually signed as the northern part of the Bronx River Parkway nowadays). The original plan was to connect to the Saw Mill River Parkway, but in 1980, the Sprain was connected to the Taconic instead, making the two appear to be one highway. In Bronxville, the highway merges into the Bronx River Parkway.
