[edit] Peer Review

The following suggestions were generated by a semi-automatic javascript program, and might not be applicable for the article in question.

  • Per Wikipedia:Context and Wikipedia:Build the web, years with full dates should be linked; for example, link January 15, 2006.[?]
  • Watch for redundancies that make the article too wordy instead of being crisp and concise. (You may wish to try Tony1's redundancy exercises.)
    • While additive terms like “also”, “in addition”, “additionally”, “moreover”, and “furthermore” may sometimes be useful, overusing them when they aren't necessary can instead detract from the brilliancy of the article. This article has 21 additive terms, a bit too much.
    • Vague terms of size often are unnecessary and redundant - “some”, “a variety/number/majority of”, “several”, “a few”, “many”, “any”, and “all”. For example, “All pigs are pink, so we thought of a number of ways to turn them green.”
  • This article needs footnotes, preferably in the cite.php format recommended by WP:WIAFA. Simply, enclose inline citations, with WP:CITE or WP:CITE/ES information, with <ref>THE FOOTNOTE</ref>. At the bottom of the article, in a section named “References” or “Footnotes”, add <div class="references-small"><references/></div>.[?]
  • The article will need references. See WP:CITE and WP:V for more information.[?]
  • Please ensure that the article has gone through a thorough copyediting so that it exemplifies some of Wikipedia's best work. See also User:Tony1/How to satisfy Criterion 1a.[?]

[edit] SCIENTISTS say he's gay???

"Some scientists claimed SpongeBob was gay but, they later dropped the charges and Steven Hillenburg has denied this on numerous occasions."

What "scientists"? God, I hope this isn't referring to right-wing nuts like James Dobson, or any of the discredited, homophobic pseudoscientists he endorses, such as Joseph Nicolosi.

The controversy might be worth mentioning because indeed there are prominent anti-gay leaders who have accused this character, and other cartoon characters, of exhibiting homosexual characteristics, and their attacks are usually part of the current culture wars and thus the issue takes on a larger historical and sociological importance. But the nutballs saying he's gay are far from being scientists and their observations are far from being scientific (or logical, or sane, etc.).

And as far as I know, real scientists study the natural world, they don't spend their time making assumptions about the sexual orientations of cartoon characters.

I'm changing the line to "social conservatives", which is just a nicer way of saying "right wing nutjobs", which is the only class of people I have ever heard accusing Spongebob or any other cartoon character of being a homosexual.

True, the only people who accused him of being gay are conservative, but those are a small minority of conservatives, and are extremists. Most conservatives don't think Spongebob's gay.

[edit] Driving test

The article says SpongeBob's taken a driving test 38 times. According to Mrs. Puff, You're Fired, it's 1,258,056. I'm changing this, but if there's a problem, revert it. --Gray PorpoisePhocoenidae, not Delphinidae 22:18, 25 October 2006 (UTC)

Spongebob has taken the Driving test 38 times it states so in the episode where spongebob cheats on his driving test by patrick giving him the answer 69.115.46.242 02:03, 4 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Spongebob's real name

In the episode "Patrick Smartpants" Patrick refers to Spongebob as "Robert" shortly after storming after Squidward's house.

  • Yes, Bob is short for Robert. So his real name could be SpongeRobert. Thunderhorse 13:37, 2 December 2006 (UTC)

i dont think so i think he just sead it to sound smart like pepole call someimes call me samule when its leagly just sam Sailor cuteness 13:17, 9 December 2006 (UTC)

  • Yeah, I agree. Besides, his license doesn't say SpongeRobert. -AMK152 14:43, 9 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Charlie Murphy?

I recently heard that Charlie Murphy plays the voice of Spongbob. Is this true because I don't really believe it.

No it's Tom Kenny. --Aved 05:25, 7 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] SPENGBAB

I came across this disturbing video recently and I think it should have some mention. Thunderhorse 20:28, 2 December 2006 (UTC)

  • No. -AMK152 02:26, 8 December 2006 (UTC)
  • Give me one good reason why it should be included. And if that reason contains the words "Artistic", "freedom of speech" or "popular", Then you should burn yourself at the stake. ~ PHDrillSergeant...§ 22:35, 18 December 2006 (UTC)

I saw some of it and it should not be mentioned. --Aved 01:04, 1 January 2007 (UTC) Pardon me for asking, but what's SPENGBAB? If it's scary or frightening, I won't watch it (in fact, I won't watch it anyway), but could you describe it with vague comments, please?

[edit] Family Guy

In an episode of Family Guy that aired last night around 11PM Eastern, Stewie had a SpongeBob figure. He explicitly called him "SpongeBob"

Mention-worthy? Thunderhorse 00:40, 5 December 2006 (UTC)

But where should we keep it?--Aved 01:05, 1 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Help please

Hi. An anon keeps blanking the age section and/or changing the age and dates. These are not verifible, and I'd rather not revert again because of 3RR. Could someone change it back, at least partially, and give a reason? Thanks. AstroHurricane001(Talk+Contribs+Ubx) 00:55, 17 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Cleanup

Hi. When I was reverting vandalism to the article, I saw lots of possible misinformaton, so I tagged it. I didn't remove it because there might have been more, and I wasn't sure if it was fake or not. Could someone give this article a periodic cleanup, or possibly semi-protect it, as it frequently gets vandalized. Thank you. AstroHurricane001(Talk+Contribs+Ubx) 21:43, 6 February 2007 (UTC)

I monitor this page reguarily. I will go through the entire article and make sure false information is remvoed. ->AMK152(TalkContributionsSend message) 00:55, 7 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Mistake in my revert

What I meant to say in my revert was that I have watched most of the episodes of this show and none of those episodes even mention this "Kelly Tait" character. Here is my revert. Squirepants101 21:09, 18 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Birthday

I've chatted with the creator before (in real life), and according to him, SpongeBob's birthday is May 19. I'm gonna change his birthday. --Der4 18:47, 14 March 2007 (UTC)

Unless you can actually provide a source others can check, I think that would be considered original research (which isn't allowed). TJ Spyke 20:10, 24 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] GAY?!

Spongebob Squarepants is not gay. His gender currently says that he's gay! This word isn't even a gender! And Stephen Hillenburg proclaimed that "Spongebob isn't gay. In fact he's almost asexual, becuase he's a sponge,". Case closed. RIGHT?

[edit] Other Nick Charcher?

Think Should Take off the Carcher from other Nick Show Both SpongeBob's Frinds and Foes.
