Sportitalia

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Sportitalia is one of the few television stations in Italy specialized in sport transmission 24 hours a day. During the day sports news programs and matches are broadcasted (in diretta o in differita) about the most popular sports (soccer, basketball, tennis, ciclyng, volley, motoristic sports, rugby, wrestling); are also offered information about other sports (winter sports, boxe, golf, surf, skate, swimming, boating, canoe/Kayak, American football, baseball and cricket).

It borns after the decision of the "Autorità garante della concorrenza e del mercato", an Italian organism that controls that there aren't positions of privileges at favour of a firm, to subordinate the creation of Sky Italy to the transfer of the frequencies of the two analogue codified channels possessed by Tele+, Tele+Bianco and Tele+Nero.

The financier Tarak Ben Ammar bought the frequencies in collaboration with the satellitar channel Eurosport. The frequencies became, then, of property at 51% of the Holland Coordinator and Service Bv, firm of Tarak Ben Ammar, and at 49% of the TF1 Group, principal commercial French TV channel, che possesses also Eurosport. Subsequently Tarak Ben Ammar gets of the Minister Gasparri, chief, in 2004, of the Minister of the Communications, a decree that allows him to transform the concessions from crypted TV to free TV: here, then, Sportitalia.

Seen the excellent share of the first 18 months of the channel, other two DTT channels are created: Si Live 24, an all sports news channels 24 hours a day, and Si Solo Calcio, an all soccer channel (both channels transmits some matches of "Serie B", the Italian Second Division, in exclusive, free with the DTT technology).

SportItalia from the 6th January 2006 is entered in Sky Italy platform and from 16th May 2006 has stopped the analogue transmissions.

In 2006 some journalists had leaved from Sportitalia (passing to SKY Italy and Mediaset). The 7th September 2006 Sportitalia bought the right for the "Serie B" (the Italian Second Division) 2006/07.
