Splatterball

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Splatterball was a popular paintball-style online game provided by AOL and GameStorm services. The game was developed by Mythic Entertainment, the creators of the popular MMORPG Dark Age of Camelot. The game later had a sequel known as Splatterball Plus on a separate gaming service.

There have been online petitions to bring back splatterball[1] , but to no avail. Originally Splatterball was available through America Online, using keyword Splatterball. Aol users could log on and were charged by the amount of time they played, which was then billed to their aol account. Splatterball was eventually disbanded and Splatterball plus came to life through the Mythic website, in which players could play for a fee of around 10 dollars a month. Splatterball Plus never had the same following as the original Splatterball, although Plus was successful, it never maintained the popularity or notability as the original game, possibly because of lack of exposure the game had when it left Aol.

There were some Classic players throughout the life of the game. Most notably Punisher, Krazii, Acemoo, Enemy, GF, XSF, It was the community of closenit players that kept people coming back. Among The All Time Greatest Was a "Leet" "Hacker" Known As Idal, Who Dominated with aim that was accused of auto-aim and 10 ping....he was so good - that he was banned - Which Lead to splatterball and splatterball plus dying!

This game is no longer available as of early 2006 along with all other games offered on the Mythic-Realms gaming center excluding Dragon's Gate.

In June 20, 2006 Mythic Entertainment was purchased by Electronic Arts. They are currently working on Warhammer Online and Dark Age of Camelot. [2]
