Spitfire (beer)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Spitfire is an ale brewed by Shepherd Neame, Britain's oldest brewery, in Faversham, Kent. Shepherd Neame is a family owned brewery which produces a range of cask ales and filtered beer. Production is around 200,000 barrels a year. They own over 350 pubs mainly in the south east of England and London.

This 4.5% Kentish Ale was first brewed in 1990 to celebrate the Battle of Britain which was fought in the skies above Kent 50 years earlier. The beer is named after the legendary aircraft designed by R J Mitchell. The versatility of the aircraft and the courage of its pilots were essential to victory and were a key symbol of the spirit of that time. Through Shepherd Neame's award winning advertising and fundraising activities for veterans' charities, that spirit lives on.

Andrew Jefford writes... "Deep amber in colour, generous aromas of tangy malt..spicy hops follow through to provide a complex finish"

Spitfire is Shepherd Neame's biggest-selling cask conditioned ale. It is available in thousands of pubs nationwide, including most J.D. Wetherspoons outlets, and is also packaged in bottles and cans for the take-home market.
