[edit] About Spirit
Spirit is the Ambassador of the Fihls. His first appearance in the series was in the episode "Hostilities Break Out", in a flashback Eva (aka Molly) had of the explosion that killed her mother, Maya, when she was racing against Spirit. His next appearance is in the episode "Treacherous Like Toros", when the six semi-finalists are being introduced by the Avatar. This is when Spirit is first introduced to the viewer. After seeing Spirit, Molly colapses slightly and has another flashback of the death of her mother, believing that it was Spirit who killed her. Later, in that same episode, Prince Aikka races against Spirit, and loses. Spirit's true alignment, believed until this time to be evil, is finally revealed in the episode "Silent Like Spirit", along with the truth about Maya's race against Spirit and her crash in that same race. Spirit's last appearance is in the episode "Make Way!", when he has a rematch against Prince Aikka. This time, Aikka emerges victorious, and Spirit is eliminated from the Great Race of Ōban.
[edit] Characteristics
Spirit's looks are those of shadow with a huge head, with spiky structures on top and at the sides of the head that resemble spiky hair and long elfish ears, respectively, and a normal-sized white, expressionless, masklike face. He does not have a Star-Racer, he is his own Star-Racer instead. When it's time to compete in a race, his body morphs into a bigger form, that resembles a bird, and is aproximately the same size of the Whizzing Arrows.
[edit] Story: The Relationship between Spirit and Eva
Ten years before the beginning of the series, he raced against Molly’s mother, Maya. It was the first time that Eva saw Spirit, and she was horrified by his appearance. Near the end of the race, Spirit flew extremely close to Maya's ship, which exploded soon after. From Don Wei's and Eva's perspective, it appeared that Spirit caused the explosion.
Ten years later, Eva (now assuming the name 'Molly'), encounters Spirit again in the Alwas Cycle semifinals, and eventually has to race against him. Her rage for her mother's death blinding her to anything else, she crashed her Star-Racer numerous times in failed attempts to kill Spirit, which ends up totally destroying the Whizzing Arrow II and costing her the race.
Both Jordan and Molly surive unconscious, Spirit changes back to his humanoid shape and started walking towards Molly, right when Prince Aikka arrives to help her. He than takes fighting stance to protect Molly, telling Spirit that he had won the race and had "no need to harm the girl", to which he responds by raising his hands so that Aikka sees he means no harm. He than kneels close to Molly and starts reading her memories, as he doesn't understand why is she so mad with him and called him a "murderer." He then sees her memory of the crash that killed her mother, and then allows her to see his memory of the very same event. This is when the truth is finally revealed, that he saw that Maya's ship was working improperly, and the underside of her left reactor was sparking and leaking fuel. He than flies close to the ship, in an attempt to save Maya, but she waves him off and go ahead, and makes one final signal to him before the explosion. Molly, still unconscious, responds to those visions by calling "mommy" and sheding a tear. After that, he stands up, sheds some tears of his own, and morphs back into his birdlike form, and leaves to finish the race.
Later, Jordan asks her if she knew Spirit, and she answers that she thought she did, and apologizes with him.
[edit] Personality
Spirit is a very mysterious character, and little information about him is revealed in the series. As he doesn't talk, and his face has absolutely no expression (as it looks like a mask), it's quite hard to define precisely his personality. Telling by his actions, he seems to be very calm and passive. He also seems to care for other people (evidenced by the fact that he tried to save Maya's life before she crashed and died), and quite emotive as well (as he cried when he remembered the accident with Maya, as he felt guilty for not being able to save her).
