Spike Dykes

William Taylor "Spike" Dykes (born March 14, 1938) was the head football coach of the Texas Tech Red Raiders from 1987 to 1999. He compiled a 82-67-1 record. He was the first coach in school history to lead the team to six-straight bowl games. He was also the school's first coach to defeat the Texas Longhorns in five different seasons. He earned three Southwest Conference and one Big 12 Conference Coach of the Year honors.
Spike Dykes is a 1959 alumni of Stephen F. Austin State University. He also served as an assistant coach at the University of Texas, as well as a head coach at numerous high schools. He is the author of the books Spike Dykes' Tales from the Texas Tech Sideline (with Dave Boling) and Principles of Coaching Football (with Mike Bobo).
