[edit] Plot
Peter Parker (a.k.a. Spider-Man) is at Dr. Otto Octavius' exposition, who is reformed from being the villain, Doc Ock, and is explaining his new machine to many people in the crowd that came to his expo. Meanwhile, Eddie Brock, who is in the crowd, is taking pictures so he can get his job back at the Daily Bugle. But before Octavius can fully explain his device, "Spider-Man" appears, knocks out a few guards and steals Octavius's device. The crowd panics, and runs, but Peter knows that it is an impostor. "I thought I was Spider-man." He tries to get free from the crowd so he can get into his Spider-Man costume but the crowd is too powerful. Brock can't get a picture with the crowd running and soon, the two (Peter and Brock) bump into each other and Peter realizes it was Brock. Brock tries to figure out who he was because he looked familiar but is too late to find out as Peter completely disappears from the crowd. Brock then forgets about trying to remember Peter and gets back to taking pictures of Spider-Man stealing Octavius' machine. But Spider-Man spots Brock, destroys his camera and runs off.
Later on, Brock is still at the empty exposition room where Spider-Man pulled off the machine heist. He realizes his picture-taking career is over for him again and sees visions of J. Jonah Jameson firing him. Eddie gets completely angry and the alien symbiote takes over Brock and the two form the supervillain Venom. He promises that both, Spider-Man and Jameson, will die.
Meanwhile, two mysterious masterminds release a fog from a machine, covering New York City entirely and laugh with evil.
As Spider-Man goes off to find the impostor who framed him of stealing Octavius' new machine, his friend, the Black Cat, stops him and warns him that there's a bank heist going on and there are hostages. Cat leaves Spider-Man on his own and the wall-crawler goes off to find the bank. As he gets closer to the bank, a few police choppers, who are looking for Spider-Man, get involved to stop the bank heist as well. But a chopper that's on the robbers' side shoots down the police choppers. Spider-Man then realizes that the robbers are serious and continues his journey to the bank. By the time he arrives on the top of the building that's two roofs away from the bank, Spider-Man complains to Black Cat that not only will he be blamed for the heist the impostor did but he will also be accused of taking down those choppers. After that, the Black Cat warns Spider-Man that there are robbers on the rooftop of the bank and they are heavily armed. She leaves Spider-Man on his own again and he swings to the roof of the bank, taking down the robbers guarding the bank roof. After their defeat, Spider-Man then goes down through a destroyed glass window he broke.
Spider-Man arrives down into the bank and saves the hostages that are being held captive by more robbers. Once he succeeds, he goes into an elevator one floor down to save more hostages. After that, he manages to take out a few more robbers. The final hostages are being held with the final crooks and a bomb. Once Spider-Man alerts the robbers' attentions, they start the timer on the bomb and begin to take out the hostages. Spider-Man defeats the crooks, frees the hostages and places the bomb in a safe place to explode inside a vault. Spider-Man then swings away.
Later on, when Peter starts to give a call to J. Jonah Jameson, Jameson quickly interrupts him and warns Peter that Scorpion is with him and will kill him! The Scorpion destroys Jameson's cellphone, Peter quickly becomes Spider-Man and swings off to the Daily Bugle to rescue Jameson. He arrives and begins fighting Scorpion, and defending Jameson from certain death. Spider-Man succeeds but Jameson still doesn't thank Spider-Man as he won't forgive him after what the impostor did. The police arrive and Jameson tells them to grab Spider-Man. He escapes only to be confronted by Daredevil who wants to know Spider-Man's side of the story. Spider-Man explains that an impostor framed him and he has to figure out why before the police take him out and everything is too late. Daredevil believes Spider-Man. The wall-crawler asks why and Daredevil answers, "Let's just say you got your super powers and I've got mine." (unbeknownst to Spider-Man, Daredevil has the ability to hear the speed of Spider-Man's heartbeat to see if he's lying or not). Daredevil promises he will spread the word of Spider-Man's innocence to the other superheros and leaves.
Then Spider-Man is left to run, swing, jump and crawl to avoid being killed or captured by a police chopper and other pursuing cops.
Spider-Man avoids being killed on rooftops, a totally ruined apartment, construction sites and many more. Finally, Spider-Man loses the police chopper on one last rooftop when it strikes a tower and needs to land. The Black Cat then arrives and tells Spider-Man that Venom has a message for him in Times Square on its big screen. And not only that but the Rhino is causing trouble at Omnitech. Spider-Man then chooses to get Venom's message first then arrive to defeat the Rhino.
Later, Venom's message on the Times Square big screen explains that he has Mary Jane Parker, Peter Parker's wife. Venom then says that Spider-Man can come and save her ("So, just in case someone, and I know who it could be, if any of you tight-wearing freaks out there wants to save little Miss Fashion Model, then bring it on! Meanwhile, New Yorkers, the Venom Marathon will continue!"). The Black Cat then explains that Spider-Man should go save Mary Jane while she can fight and defeat Rhino on her own. But Spider-Man explains that he won't let the Black Cat take on Rhino by herself. He explains why:
“ | Look, being Spider-Man has given me a lot and taken a lot away from me. I swore to use my powers for others before myself no matter what the cost. There are innocent people at Omnitek and they need our help right now! I won't let you alone, Cat. Then I'll stop Venom. And this time, it'll be the last time. | ” |
Spider-Man and the Black Cat arrive too late at Omnitek and a group of technology robbers have taken away the machinery. Then the Rhino unexpectedly appears and wounds the Black Cat, leaving Spider-Man to take on the villain alone. Spider-Man outsmarts the Rhino into electrocuting himself. Then Dr. Octavius and the police arrive and take away Rhino. Now with Rhino out of the way, Spider-Man changes back into Peter Parker to find out what happened to the Black Cat. Peter finds Black Cat being taken away on a stretcher by paramedics. Black Cat tries to tell Peter something but is too late when the paramedics (who 100% resemble the thug enemies) close the doors ("Peter, help me—they're not really parame- (doors close)). At the front of the ambulance truck, Octavius appears driving and his passenger right beside him is a mysterious figure. They then drive off, laughing menacingly.
The story later shifts to Spider-Man talking with the Human Torch of the Fantastic Four on the Statue of Liberty about everything he experienced so far. Torch then explains Spider-Man should find Venom, despite Venom's ability to slip past Spider-Man's spider sense. "Have faith, Spidey," Torch says, and then flies off. Spider-Man then swings away, telling himself he has to find Mary Jane. Venom appears and invites him in the game of Cat & Mouse where Spider-Man has to catch Venom to find Mary Jane. After a long rooftop chase, Spider-Man finally catches Venom right on top of a building and Venom explains that they will have a fight and Spider-Man should follow him. Spider-Man and Venom then get into a battle (this takes place outside the Hellfire Club). After a short fight, Venom escapes through a manhole with Spider-Man still chasing him. As the chase continues, Spider-Man also encounters the Lizardmen who appear to be "leftovers from one of The Lizard's experiments". Spider-Man then jumps on top of a moving train and has to confront as many Lizardmen as he can. Venom then appears, catches Spider-Man off guard and punches him right through an open manhole.
Spider-Man then lands in a deeper part of the sewers, fights off more Lizardmen as he travels through more of the sewers, and avoiding several traps, he discovers the Lizard, who's stuck behind a cage, who tells him where Mary Jane is. Spider-Man locates her, dangeling from a hook in a pipe with rising water. Venom appears again and the fight is on. Spider-Man stops the water and finally defeats Venom in battle. Spider-Man asks why Venom returned (while punching him) and he explains that he saw, as Eddie Brock, Spider-Man stealing Dr. Otto Octavius' device earlier. Spider-Man punches him again and reminds him that when he was Brock, he bumped into Peter Parker, who Venom knows is Spider-Man. Venom then apologizes for his misunderstanding and they return to the surface after freeing Mary Jane.
On top of a rooftop, Spider-Man and Venom talk to figure out what's happening and guess who framed Spider-Man. After all this, Spider-Man and Venom decide to forget all their rivalry and work together to solve the mystery of the heist.
They go to the Daily Bugle to research the expo heist. But just when they arrive, Venom senses another symbiote villain, Carnage. Venom leaves Spider-Man on his own and Spider-Man, hearing a hissing sound and warned by his spider-sense, turns to see a pack of hostless, pink symbiotes have taken over the Bugle. Now he has to take down the group of cloned symbiotes that are coming from an unknown location. Spider-Man fights off the symbiotes, and frees a group of trapped employees. He then goes into the elevator shaft and fights off even more symbiotes. Finally, Spider-Man goes through a door that leads into the Bugle paper room, figuring out the symbiotes are coming from machines that are cloning them. Spider-Man destroys five generators (even taking out a few of the symbiotes using a chemical that makes his webs combustible). Just after the generators have been destroyed, the wall-crawler heads down to the basement to take out more symbiotes and two more generators. Once he succeeds, he runs into the Spider-Man impostor where the impostor reveals himself to be Mysterio, who then grows to the size of King Kong. Spider-Man defeats Mysterio, returning him back to his normal size. Spider-Man then interagates Mysterio about who's behind the heist that framed Spider-Man. Mysterio vows never to tell but does tell Spider-Man that there will be a symbiote invasion that will render New York and the rest of the world helpless. Spider-Man then asks where the symbiotes are coming from (after punching through his helmet). The Master of Illusion then explains they are coming from the waterfront at Warehouse 65. "On the waterfront, Warehouse 65. Oh, how I wish I could see them destroy you."
At the waterfront, Spider-Man confronts the Punisher, after the latter attempts to shoot him, and they travel to Warehouse 65. Spider-Man leaves Punisher out of the plot because "I'd like to keep the bodycount low". The Punisher agrees to cover Spidey and stays out of his way. Spider-Man goes through the warehouse inside and going down several air vents, finds him self in an under water complex. He arrives inside a hall where endless symbiotes are multiplying from a machine that can't be stopped. Spider-Man, looking for a way out, goes into a room and finds the Black Cat who's helplessly stuck inside a force field tank. He finds a machine that helps deactivate the lock on the machines that are creating the fog. Then Spider-Man goes into the rooms where the machines are and turns them off, destroying the machines that create the fog and crippling the complex. Once he completes the task, the Black Cat is free and the two say farewell to each other as the Black Cat leaves to get help and Spider-Man continues his journey to finally find out who is behind this insidious symbiote invasion plot. Spider-Man then runs into Dr. Octopus, revaling himself to be the mastermind behind the plot, and his assistant, the symbiote villain Carnage. Venom then appears and gets into a fight with Carnage that leads away from Spider-Man and Ock. Both of them get into a final battle where Ock is protected behind a shield. However, Spider-Man turns off the generators that temporarily shuts down the shield. Spider-Man pummels Ock, permanently destroying the shield and knocking him out.
Venom is then nearly thrown into Spider-Man after losing his fight with Carnage. Spider-Man tries to check on Venom, who tries to warn him of Carnage sneaking up on him, but it's too late, and Spidey is dragged, literally, in a fight with Carnage. Spider-Man defeats Carnage by trapping him in a sonic barrier numerous times until he blacks out. The symbiote then lets go of Cletus Kasady and slides away.
Just when Spider-Man thought it was all over, Doc Ock and the Carnage symbiote combine and create Monster-Ock, a powerful creature that is likely to kill Spider-Man in battle. But, before a fight even begins, Ock's base starts to blow up. Spider-Man flees and Monster-Ock gives chase, going up vents. Spider-Man escapes, avoiding a wave of fire that Monster-Ock is caught in. Doc Ock, himself, survived thanks to the symbiote and was only knocked unconscious as the symbiote slithers away. Spider-Man takes Ock's unconscious body and with the underwater base quickly exploding, assumes he's doomed. However, Venom, the Black Cat and Captain America appear in Cap's hovercar, save Spider-Man and Ock from certain death and flee the explosion.
Later on, Spider-Man, Daredevil, the Punisher and Captain America are seen playing poker. The Black Cat and Human Torch are seen dancing in the same room.
Meanwhile, all the villains (minus Carnage and Venom) Spider-Man fought against are seen in the same jail cell. Ock begins hitting his head against the jail cell bars, not only realizing that he was defeated again by Spider-Man but he's stuck in a cell full of idiots.
[edit] Characters
- Spider-Man - The alter ego of Peter Parker, Spider-Man is one of New York City superheroes, until he was framed by an impostor who dressed up like him. Despite all the obstacles that got in his way, he found out Doc Ock and Mysterio framed him. Spider-Man has now currently been cleared of all charges after the events of this game. He became a crime fighter after he failed to stop a burglar that later killed his beloved Uncle Ben, he learned that with Great Power, Comes Great Responsibility.
- Venom - Formerly Spider-Man's costume, the alien symbiote Spider-Man wore since the Secret Wars has been rejected by him and bonded with Eddie Brock. There is nothing more than Venom and Brock would like to see Spider-Man dead. When Spider-Man defeated him, Venom became a temporary ally until they find out what was going on. After Doc Ock's plan of having symbiotes bond with humans was foiled, Venom, Black Cat and Captain America saved Spidey and an unconscious Doc Ock.
- Doctor Octopus - Pretending to have reformed, Doc Ock set up a plan to frame Spider-Man with the help of Mysterio. While the police are distracted looking for Spider-Man, the process of symbiotes bonding with humans would occur, but the plan was foiled by Spider-Man and Ock was taken to jail.
- Mysterio - While Doc Ock pretended to be reformed, Ock hired Mysterio to frame Spider-Man by stealing an invention Ock created. Spider-Man figured out it was Mysterio who framed him and the two battled. Despite his size, Spider-Man defeated Mysterio and got information that would stop the symbiote-human-bonding process. Mysterio was taken to jail afterwards.
- J. Jonah Jameson - Jameson is Peter Parker's boss of the Daily Bugle, hates Spider-Man and creator of the Scorpion. Despite Spider-Man saving Jameson from the Scorpion when he defeated him in battle, Jameson was completely aware that Spider-Man stole Dr. Octavius' device (unbeknownst that Spidey was framed) and didn't see Spider-Man as a hero, no matter what.
- Scorpion - Originally a private detective sent to spy on Peter Parker under J. Jonah Jameson's orders, the Scorpion saw himself as a freak and would kill Jameson for revenge, and Spider-Man for repeatedly stopping him. After another failed attempt to have killed Jameson, Spider-Man defeated Scorpion in battle, in which Scorpion was incarcerated.
- Carnage - As a spawn of the villainous symbiote Venom, Carnage bonded with insane serial killer Cletus Kasady, making him one of the most dangerous foes Spider-Man has ever fought. In this game, Carnage is Doc Ock's second in command. After Spider-Man defeated Doc Ock in battle, Carnage defeated Venom in battle and fought Spider-Man. Carnage was then defeated, and possbly killed by the exploding base.
- Monster-Ock - After Spider-Man defeated Carnage in this game, the symbiote crawled off Cletus Kasady and to Doc Ock, creating the villain hybrid Monster-Ock. Both fled the destruction of Doc Ock's lair but while Spider-Man wasn't caught in any explosion, Monster-Ock was. Doc Ock wasn't killed, thanks to the symbiote.
- The Black Cat - The Black Cat was a former burglar and and girlfriend of Spider-Man, now just friends. When she tried to help Spider-Man defeat Rhino, he gored her, leaving Spider-Man to fight Rhino alone. Luckily, Spider-Man defeated Rhino in battle and Peter Parker saw that the Cat was being taken to a hospital. However, she was in reality taken away by Ock's thugs. Eventually, Spider-Man saved her and foiled Doc Ock's plan of having symbiotes bond with humans. She, along with a reformed Venom and Captain America, saved Spider-Man and Doc Ock from Ock's exploding lair. She was last seen dancing with the Human Torch.
- Mary Jane Parker - When Spider-Man was framed, Venom kidnapped Mary Jane Parker. Spider-Man followed Venom into the sewers in which when Spider-Man defeated Venom in battle, Venom saw Spider-Man was framed and saved MJ, bringing her back home.
- Daredevil - Alter ego of Matt Murdock. After being blinded after saving an old man walking across the street from being hit by a truck which contained radioactive waste, Matt was blinded by the waste, granting him super powers and sharpening his remaining four senses, while also giving him a human radar system. With these powers, and martial arts skills, he battles the injustice of New York's seedy underworld by night, and battling evil in the courtroom as a lawyer by day. When Spider-Man was framed, Daredevil found out when listening to his story, also hearing his heartbeat, knowing he wasn't lying. He would promise to tell New York about his innocence and after Spider-Man was proven framed, he was cleared of all charges. Daredevil was last seen playing cards with the web-slinger, Captain America and the Punisher.
- The Punisher - After Frank Castle's family was wiped out in a mob hit, he used his combat skills and training to punish his family's killers. He now roams New York City, employing his own form of justice against the bad guys using their rules. Spider-Man found the Punisher and the criminal-killer helped the web-slinger find Warehouse 65 to stop symbiotes from bonding with humans, as explained by Mysterio in Spider-Man's previous battle with him. Spider-Man had the Punisher back down because he wanted to "keep the body count low". The Punisher left Spider-Man on his own as he wished. After Doc Ock's plan was foiled and Spider-Man was proven framed, the Punisher was last seen playing cards with Spider-Man, Captain America and Daredevil.
- Captain America - The star spangled Avenger who was famous for aiding the allies against the Nazi war machine in World War 2. When Spider-Man stopped the process of symbiotes bonding with humans, Captain America, Black Cat and Venom all saved Spider-Man and Ock from Ock's exploding lair. America was last seen playing cards with Spider-Man, Daredevil and the Punisher.
- The Human Torch - The hot headed member of the world famous Fantastic Four. He is Spider-Man's best superhero friend and is always ready to aid him. When Mary Jane was kidnapped by Venom and the Black Cat was taken out of action, the Human Torch comforted Spider-Man, telling him he'll find Venom or Venom will find him, flying off. The Human Torch was last seen dancing with the Black Cat.
- The Rhino - When Spider-Man and the Black Cat went to Omnitech to stop Rhino, Rhino snuck up on Black Cat and gored her. Spider-Man was left alone to fight Rhino and easily defeated him. Spider-Man hid and watched as the seemingly reformed Doc Ock carried off Rhino, putting him in jail.
[edit] Bosses
- Scorpion - Boss 1 of the game. He must be defeated before he can kill J. Jonah Jameson.
- The Rhino- Boss 2 of the game. He uses a charging attack. If timed right, you can make him slam into one of the generators, shocking him. Explosive barrels in the four corners of the level can also be used to beat him.
- Venom - Bosses 3 and 4 of the game. In fight 1, he can become invisible and will try to sneak attacks. A car can be used as a weapon against him. In fight 2, the objective here is to prevent four water switches from drowning Mary Jane in a water trap. The trap is controlled by the four switches. If the capsule gets filled all the way, it's game over.
- Mysterio - Boss 5 of the game. Hit the six conduits on the boss in phase 1: 2 near his head, two on his waist and the last two are on his knees. In phase 2, two more weak spots that shoot laser beams are near his head. To defeat the boss finally, shoot at his head twice (if you are in the black Spider-Man costume, the webs are twice as powerful, so you'll only need to shoot once).
- Doctor Octopus - Boss 6 of the game. Hit four swiches around him to lower his force field and his tentacles will get stuck and he will be open to attack.
- Carnage - Boss 7 of the game. He has multiple attacks, but you are safe from his attacks in the sonic field in the middle of the room, but beware it drains your health. The sonic bubble can also be used to beat the boss the easy way.
- Monster-Ock - Boss 8 of the game. You can't fight him, but must get out of the base without him catching up to you. If he does, Spider-Man will be instantly defeated.
[edit] Public Response
The game was very popular with fans of the comic book, as it is often felt that video games based on Spider-Man have treated the character properly. The game included numerous secrets such as the ability to change Spider-Man's costume to the various different versions he has had over the years. As often occurred in the comic books, other superheros such as the Human Torch appear to move the storyline along, and the dialogue between the levels was widely seen as true to form.

[edit] Billboards in the game
- In certain parts of the game, if Spider-Man jumps on a billboard's advertisement, he will comment on it. For instance, some billboards are advertising a TV special featuring Cletus Cassidy/Carnage, while others promote Tony Hawk games (there's also a TV in Jameson's office that shows a Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 game in action). Another advertises a special on sewer monsters: when Spidey swings by, he comments on the unlikeliness of their presence. Ironically, these monsters are real, and he must fight several in the later levels.
- In one level, there is a building with a sign displaying "The Daily Grind", which was a coffee shop where Ben Reilly, Peter Parker's clone, worked.
[edit] What If? Mode
- If one types in "GBHSRSPM" in the cheat screen, then the game will change slightly and become What If mode. In the second level (Bank Approach), Uatu the Watcher announces that you're now playing in What If mode. *Note: Does not work with N64 version.
- Tons of features await the player in this mode: fighting a squeaky-voiced Carnage after a "Mini-Ock," and Scorpion shouts "Here's Johnny!" in the What If version of the battle in JJJ's office.
- In the Bank Approach level you can find the Fantastic Four's skyscraper, which has a comic book cover on top, and Spidey says "Aw, man, looks like the Fantastic Four aren't around right now." However, in What If mode, Johnny Storm is standing there instead. Once you get to him, he tells you that his team is currently dealing with Mole Man and thus cannot help in any of Spider-Man's missions.
- While the What If? Mode isn't on the N64 version, the sound test for the game has Johnny's dialogue concerning Mole Man.
- Several other Marvel characters appear in What If mode that did not appear in the regular mode: the Silver Surfer flies by when you jump on the blimp in the Police Chopper Chase level, Ghost Rider can be seen riding up the sides of buildings in the Race to the Bugle level, and the Sub-Mariner can be seen watching the battle with Carnage.
- If you type in "RULUR" to the cheat section in the PlayStation version of the game, Joel James Jewett is in the character list. Also, if this code is active in the What If mode, he replaces J. Jonah Jameson in Spidey vs. Scorpion!
- In the What If version of the Waterfront Warehouse level, the Ark of the Covenant can be found in a crate inside the first room.
- The game also has a parody to The Matrix in What If Mode. After completing the Bugle's Basement level, when Spider-Man finds the impostor, Spider-Man kicks and the impostor jumps, and time slows and the camera spins around.
- In What If mode, at the level Underwater Trench, you must race a yellow sub to the end of the level and, if you win, you get one of the cheat codes, "GLANDS" or "STRUDL", either of which gives you unlimited webbing.
- Also in What If mode: in the fourth level (Stop the Bomb!), when you open up the bank vault, there is graffiti behind a pile of gold saying, "Hans was here!"
- In the Venom's Puzzle level, water is in the bottom and pouring in the part of the level where you have to touch the switches to open the doors Venom is hiding behind. But in What If mode, it is actually hot lava. Spider-Man then comments on this saying "Oh lava! How original!"
- In the What If version of the Stopping the Fog level, when you enter the security room to be reunited with Black Cat, she is dancing and complains that she can't stop. She then claims that blowing the pipes will make the music stop: and cease her uncontrollable urge to dance.
[edit] Comics
Throughout the game, there are thirty-two comics, out of thirty-four levels of the entire game, to be collected. The following levels have all the comics and the instructions on how to get them.
1. Bank Approach - The first comic of the game. Before you swing to the bank, turn to your left when the level begins and you will see the top of the Fantastic Four building two buildings away. Get to the Four building and you will see the comic on the very top. This comic tells the story when Spider-Man tries to join the Fantastic Four (which makes total obvious sense since he collected this comic on top of their building) and The Chameleon, Spider-Man's first enemy, makes his debut appearance in this comic.
2. Hostage Situation - Just in the room where you must save the final three of the total five held hostages, there is a chair in the first cubicle you must remove. Once you pick up that chair, you throw it away and the comic will appear in the middle. This comic tells the story when Spider-Man loses his powers and confronts the burgular who killed Peter Parker's Uncle Ben, where the burgular dies fighting Spider-Man and meanwhile, Mysterio fakes Peter's Aunt May's death.
3. Stop the Bomb! - Just when you save all the hostages but before you can stop the bomb (hence the title) from detonating, be quick to return to the hall which is two rooms before the bomb's appearance room. When you return to that room, the first thing you will see is the comic and grab it. This comic tells the story about Captain George Stacy's death when he died in between a battle with Spider-Man and Dr. Octopus.
4. Race to the Bugle - When you get to the building where it cuts to the FMA with the two crooks talking to each other, the comic will appear at the right side of the roof and let yourself drop there. This comic tells the story when J. Jonah Jameson creates a robot that could finally take down Spider-Man, with a subplot of Mary Jane Watson's cameo debut. This choice of comic is ironic, because you have to get to The Daily Bugle (hence the title of racing to The Bugle) to save Jameson in time from getting killed by The Scorpion.
5. Spidey vs. Scorpion! - During your battle with Scorpion, every piece of furniture in the first room with your fight must be destroyed. When that plan succeeds, the comic will appear in the middle of the room. It tells the story of the origin and first appearance of The Scorpion in the comics. This makes sense because you have to battle Scorpion (as already mentioned).
6. Police Chopper Chase - As you are running, jumping and swinging away from the police chopper, you get to the last building just prior to the building to complete the level. You stay at the first right box for long enough for the chopper to fire a missile there. After avoiding the blast of the box, the comic, along with a web cartridge, will be found at the exploded box. This comic tells the story of the first appearance of Daredevil in the Spider-Man comics. This makes sense because Daredevil appeared in the cutscene that took place before the level began.
7. Building Top Chase - As you are still avoiding the police chopper that is chasing you, you will find a Green Goblin crane somewhere in the level. Go inside there and the comic, along with a Spider-Man armour, will appear. This comic tells the story when The Green Goblin figures out Spider-Man is actually Peter Parker and almost reveals the superhero's secret identity in public by flying him around on his glider with him tied up on a rope. The book ends with The Goblin revealing his own identity to Spider-Man when he thinks he has his foe beaten and they fight with Spider-Man winning by throwing him into a group of livewires, giving the villain partial amnisea and doesn't remember the superhero's secret identity anymore. This choice of comic makes sense since you got this from the Green Goblin crane (as already mentioned).
8. Scale the Girders - Before you start climbing up the top of the building when the level begins, you crawl to the left side of the building and let yourself drop. You will land on a ledge and in the middle of that ledge, the comic will be there and you grab it. This comic tells the story when Aunt May slips into a coma after a heart attack and after making a full recovery, she tells her nephew, Peter, she knew he was Spider-Man for some time. A few hours afterwards, she dies off for some reason.
9. Police Evaded - During the level, you will arrive to a building where there are two windows on top, which are later shot and destroyed by the police chopper still chasing you. You go into one of those destroyed windows and they give you the entrance of the same room. You defeat the two cops that are guarding the room first and there will be rusted glass you must destroy. Behind that glass is the comic. This story tells the origin and first appearance of The Green Goblin.
10. Spidey vs. Rhino! - During your battle with Rhino, you must have every barrel at the corners of the room you and Rhino are battling in destroyed. Once those barrels have been disintegrated, the comic will appear in the middle of the room. This story tells the origin and first appearance of The Rhino (this obviously makes sense since you are battling him as already mentioned).
11-12. Catch Venom - This level actually has two comics this time. The first is located at the building which is two buildings away from the incomplete one Venom is heading for. This comic tells the story when Spider-Man and The Black Cat get into a battle with Dr. Octopus and The Owl. During that fight, Black Cat is nearly killed by Dr. Octopus and Spider-Man goes after him for revenge (this makes sense because before Spidey vs. Rhino started, there was a brief cutscene where Rhino wounds Black Cat before he battles Spider-Man). The second comic is actually located at the incomplete building Venom is at (along with another Spider-Man armour). This comic tells the story when Spider-Man is lured to the Statue of Liberty by a false message by The Human Torch and The Frightful Four attack Spider-Man for vengeance for what he did to them in the past. And when they are done with him, The Fantastic Four are next. This also makes sense because in the cutscene before this level started, Spider-Man and The Human Torch are talking as Spider-Man tells The Torch about his horrible day with Mary Jane kidnapped, him being framed and Black Cat was beaten by Rhino.
13. Spidey vs. Venom! - Behind the car that can be used as a weapon against Venom during your battle with him, the comic will appear right there. This comic tells the story of Venom when he was still a regular symbiote as Spider-Man's new costume during the Secret Wars and afterwards. This makes sense because you are battling him as already mentioned.
14. Sewer Entrance - In the first hallway after the one you start the level at, you defeat the first two Lizardmen and head for the end of that cave you're in. Once you've reached the end, you head back to the beginning and the comic will appear right there. This comic tells the story where Spider-Man and his clone, The Scarlet Spider (who wasn't realized to have been the clone, while Spider-Man was thought so), when they save Aunt May from some radioactivity in her blood by Spider-Man and Peter Parker retires as the superhero and The Scarlet Spider takes over his superhero career. (By now, you would've unlocked the Scarlet Spider Costume, so this makes sense.)
15. Sewer Cavern - Behind the third waterfall you get to in the level, a health-kit item, a web cartridge, a Spider-Man armour and the comic will appear. This comic tells the story of The Lizard's return in the comics.
16. Sewage Plant - When you get to the end of the hall by the time you've started the level, you turn left and head down to the very end and a health-kit, web cartridge and the comic will be there. This is an issue of a Spider-Man comic when Peter Parker is retired and taking photos of a jail break foiled by a person wearing a Spider-Man costume, and isn't doing a good job at it.
17. Hidden Switches - When you return to the third switch after activating the fourth switch, the comic will appear. Bascially, it is almost the same comic as the previous one.
18. Tunnel Crawl - After you activate the switch which will grant you the path to the end of the level, you head to the other box from that switch and behind it, the comic will appear. It is when the team known as The Enigma Force tries to turn Spider-Man into Captain Universe in order to defeat the Tri-Sentinel. But the process goes somewhat wrong and despite Spider-Man now has all the abilities of the previous Captain Universe, he has none of his awareness.
19. The Lizard's Maze - After you talk to The Lizard about where Mary Jane Watson is kept by Venom, the comic will appear in the same hallway and head down until you see the comic. It tells the story of the origin and first appearance of The Lizard (this makes obvious sense since Lizard appears in this level as already mentioned).
20. Symbiotes Infest Bugle - Once you head to the first vent, you go up in there and at the left, the comic will be there. It is the first full appearance of Mary Jane Watson.
21. Elevator Descent - Once you go into the last left elevator entrance, the comic will appear in the left part as well. It is the one hundredth issue of The Amazing Spider-Man comics where Spider-Man once wanted to retire being a superhero and in comes a potion that should strip him of his powers, but unfortunately, he grows four extra arms.
22. Stop the Presses! - At the third quarter of the level, lift up a stack of newspapers and the comic will appear right there. It tells the story when Spider-Man retires being a superhero because the people he saves daily are afraid of him. But his absence of being a superhero doesn't go unnoticed when The Kingpin makes his debut in the comics.
23. Bugle's Basement - At the second quarter of the level, there are four leaking pipes in front of your view. Go into targeting mode and point your target to each of the pipes until your target turns blue. Fire a strand of web to turn of each of the pipes off until the furnace on your left side explodes, revealing the comic and flame webbing. This issue tells the origin and first appearance of Mysterio. This makes sense because Mysterio poses as the Spider-Man impostor in this level.
24. Spidey vs. Mysterio! - After you have defeated Mysterio once, head for the second floor as you're still battling him and the comic should appear somewhere where Mysterio makes an actual notable appearance when he fools around with many superheroes with his allusions.
25-26. Waterfront Warehouse - In the third and final room with the symbiote generators, look around the room until you find the first comic. This comic tells the first appearance of The Punisher in the comics when he acts as a servant of the villain known as The Jackal who tricks the crime-killing vigilante into thinking Spider-Man killed Gwen Stacy back in Issues #121 and 122 while it was really The Green Goblin. This makes sense for this comic to be in this level because The Punisher appeared in the cutscene before the level began. The second comic is located at the nearly-destroyed door that is passed the hole where you drop into to end the level. You brake down the door and you turn right at the next intersection. A health-kit, web cartridge and the comic will be there. It tells the first appearance of Kraven the Hunter.
27. Underwater Trench - When you enter the eighth room of the level, you activate the switch at the right side of the room. Return to the third room of the level and go under it to find a secret room where the comic will be there. It tells the story of Spider-Man fighting The Vulture for the first time and gives photos of this to The Daily Bugle where he is hired as a freelance photographer.
28. Stopping the Fog! - This comic is in the bottom of the center column. It is the first Spider-Man 2099 comic.
29. Spidey vs. Doc Ock! - After you have gave a few beatings to Dr. Octopus the first time before Doc Ock's shield is up again after it was down, you get back to your area and collect the comic, which is in a few turns, before a few seconds is up. This comic tells the origin and first appearance of Dr. Octopus in the comics. This makes sense as you are battling him as already mentioned.
30. Spidey vs. Carnage! - While you are battling Carnage, the comic will be in the center of the sonic bubble. It frequently appears and disappears so grab it at any time when it is intact. This comic tells the story when Spider-Man learns the villain known as The Master Planner is really Dr. Octopus and they fight in an underwater battle while Aunt May is laying sick of radioactivity in her blood in the hospital. This somewhat makes sense as Spider-Man is fighting a villain in an underwater battle, but, as already noted, it is Carnage, not Doc Ock, as he was fought in the previous level, as already mentioned.
31-32. The final comics of this game. The first comic is located at the end of the first hallway where you start the level at the left side. It tells the story when Spider-Man brings his black symbiote costume to New York after the Secret Wars. The second, and very last comic of the game, is located at the third quarter of the level. It tells the origin and first appearance of Spider-Man in the comics (this is ironic since it is the last comic of the game and this comic is the first to start off Spider-Man's comic series).
