Talk:Speedball (American)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Speedball used to be a common game in California grade schools and middle schools and I played it a lot growing up.

In the late 60s, I worked in the PE department of Barbara Worth Junior High School in Brawley, CA. One of the jobs assigned to me was to referee speedball games. No one seemed able to tell me what the official rules of speedball were so I wrote up a set. Later, these rules were distributed to other schools in the area and elsewhere. I don't know if anyone is still using them and I no longer have a copy myself but they were pretty much as described in the article except a player was allowed to take one step while holding the ball prepatory to kicking it and a forward pass was allowed only for goal or by goalie. Also, any kicked ball could be caught with the hands before the first bounce. Kicked goals were two points and passed and penalty goals were one, I think.
