The speckled smooth-hound, Mustelus mento, is a houndshark of the family Triakidae, found on the continental shelves of the subtropical eastern Pacific from Peru to southern Chile, including the Galapagos and Juan Fernández Islands between latitudes 0° S and 54° S, at depths of from 16 to 50 m. Its length is up to 1.3 m.
Speckled smooth-hounds are an inshore and offshore shark found on the continental and insular shelves. They are utilized for human consumption.
Reproduction is Ovoviviparous, with 7 pups in a litter and length at birth about 30 cm.
Adults are marked by small white spots but are sometimes plain colored, while young specimens are marked with dark colored bars.
