Special Reaction Unit

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Special Reaction Unit is a part of the Philippine Army (PA) Special Operations Command (SOCOM) which is now composed of the Scout Rangers, Special Forces, and Psyops. The PA SOCOM takes the place of PA Special Warfare Brigade (SWBde) which was disbanded more than ten (date?) years ago.

A new unit under the PA SOCOM called "Alpha Two Zero" (A-20) was formed along the lines of Delta Force and is responsible for Counter-Terrorism operations. This unit was trained under the guidance of the U.S Army Green Berets and US Air Force Special Operations Command. The unit was created primarily to augment the small, but agile Light Reaction Company of the Philippine Army.

The force's main task is Counter-Terrorism, although it is extremely versatile. Alpha-20 is believed to conduct missions similar to those regularly attributed to the British Special Air Service (SAS), and the US Delta Force after which Alpha-20 was modeled, the Israeli Sayeret Matkal, the U.S. Navy's DEVGRU, Germany's GSG-9 and KSK, France's GIGN, the Polish GROM, and other elite Counter-Terrorism forces worldwide.
