Throughout the 1980s and 1990's the Special Intelligence Wing (SIW) was based at Repton Manor, Templer Barracks, Ashford, Kent. It's security operators were drawn from all elements of the British Army but the unit was controlled by the Director of Intelligence (a Brigadier based at Ashford also known as D Int). Most of it's personnel were Intelligence Corps operators who had learned their trade at Ashford and Loughborough (Garats Hey Barracks).
