[edit] Wikification
- I've had a crack at wikifying this article, let me know if it is satasfactory. I'm going to get my hands on the Codex rulebook over the course of the next week, and will add more info there. Saberwyn 01:57, 21 September 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Notable characters
I have proposed a guideline for character notablity within Warhammer 40,000 articles which I believe may effect the listings on this page. Please see the proposal at Wikipedia:WikiProject Warhammer 40,000/Notability and comment. Cheers --Pak21 10:39, 3 March 2006 (UTC)
- We have now agreed some guidelines, and I believe that Sven Bloodhowl, Strybjorn Grimskull and Ranek Icewalker do not meet any of the criteria specified. If you believe any of them do, please give the reasons here. (If you wish to discuss changes to the guidelines, please do this at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Warhammer 40,000/Notability). - Hmmm, it depends on the definition of a major character in a major series - I would have thought Sven would have qualified for that? The other two im not sure about Lowris 19:32, 18 March 2006 (UTC)
- I've taken out Grimskull and Icewalker, but left Bloodhowl for now. Any views on this, anyone? Cheers --Pak21 14:11, 21 March 2006 (UTC)
- I went and researched it a bit (read books again, i need a life!!) - i think maybe Sven should go - he is a major character but a lot of people in the books are so i think it should be restricted to main characters and i think at that stage he fails Lowris 22:22, 21 March 2006 (UTC)

and within the book it mentioned "The Wulfen" a condition not unlike the Black Rage and I just wanted other opinions on the wulfen before I add it to the space wolves article
Description taken directly from book: "Both Terran and Fenrisian Space Wolves could succumb to the curse of the Wulfen. This condition was usually diagnosed during the process of surgically and psychologically modifying a normal man to become a space marine, but it could also strike later in a space wolf's life. The curse is akin to lycanthropy-the smitten warrior is savage and beastlike in behaviour, unable to quell the rage inside. The Wulfen were remarkably hirsute, even by Space Wolf standards, and thier canine teeth grew into large dagger-like fangs. All of the Wulfen were assigned to the 13th Great Company and fought together in feral groups known as Wulfen Packs".
[edit] Wolfblades?
What is the source for the entry? I've certainly never heard of such a force in any of the common official sources. To have Marines assigned to noncombat roles would be absolutely unheard of, to say the least. --Agamemnon2 10:59, 27 June 2006 (UTC)
- I assume it's this essay by William King. Canonicity can be debated, I guess. Cheers --Pak21 11:04, 27 June 2006 (UTC)
- I agree - I've never heard of them before, until this article. I doubt they're canon. Darkson - BANG! 23:10, 19 January 2007 (UTC)
- Reverted, it's a Black Library book. --Falcorian (talk) 03:40, 20 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Banner Picture
Any references to the picture it is the Space Wolves banner? I for one have never seen it before and ive been a space wolves collector for 10 years. I believe it should be replaced with the banner of leman russ's symbol, 'the wold that stalks the stars' as is used in publications, —The preceding unsigned comment was added by CaptainHaZ (talk • contribs).
- The advantage of the current image is that it is a free image which can be freely reused. Any Games Workshop-created image is subject to copyright with all the distribution problems that implies. Cheers --Pak21 12:11, 21 September 2006 (UTC)

Didn't Grey Hunter squads used to have half wielding bolters and the other half with close-combat weapons? Also, the Long Fangs are able to have a five-man squad with four heavy weapons and a sergeant, while the standard Devestator squad is a ten-man squad with four heavies. - Check the Codexs. Grey Hunters start with Bolt Pistol and CCW, and may upgrade to Boltguns (and other weapons). All Devestator squads can be a sergeant and 4 HW Marines. The main difference between Long Fangs and Devestators is the LFs ability to split their fire between targets. Darkson - BANG! 23:01, 19 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] The Great Companies
"Instead of dividing into Chapters as per the Codex Astartes, the Space Wolves Legion split itself into twelve Great Companies, with a thirteenth named in honour of a large group of Space Wolves who had disappeared during the Great Crusade."
Does anyone have a reference for this, because my understanding of the SW fluff was that the Great Companies are the SWs equilivilent of "normal" SM Companies, that may or may not be bigger than a standard company. I can't remember reading anywhere that the Great Companies came into effect after the Heresy, I thought that they were a part of the Legion/Chapter from their inception (or at least from when Russ was reunited with them).
