The Soviet Union competed in the Olympics from 1952 to 1988. In 1992 a Unified Team from twelve of the fifteen former constituent republics of the Soviet Union competed at the Summer Olympics, and seven of the republics were represented in a unified team at the Winter Olympics. From 1994 onwards all fifteen republics have competed separately.
