I suggest that the Afrikaans edition be considered also - and someone think about watching both and carrying things back and forth. I have lifted lots about africa from the German and French wikipedias - definitely helped by automated translators that only need minor fixup. How about nominating good Afrikaans articles that need moving to the English edition ? Might save a lot of work. Wizzy 18:44, Nov 25, 2004 (UTC)

I think that's a good idea, I just have terrible Afrikaans so if you want to translate the main site describing the Collaboration, I (or you) can post it on the Afrikaans wikipedia. PZFUN 20:43, 25 Nov 2004 (UTC)

I struggle to understand Afrikaans, let alone write it. I get about 50% only. Wizzy 21:29, Nov 25, 2004 (UTC)

I'll volunteer to translate both ways; I'll try and do some tomorrow. (Dewet 21:59, 25 Nov 2004 (UTC))

  • Thanks so much for volunteering to do this! PZFUN 22:03, 25 Nov 2004 (UTC)
    • I've started the preliminary work at af:Wikipedia:Suid-Afrikaanse Samewerking van die Week; I'll have to translate the 'featured pages' references first. (Dewet 10:45, 26 Nov 2004 (UTC))
      • From what I can understand of it, it looks great so far. Again, I must give you my thanks for translating all this! PZFUN 17:31, 26 Nov 2004 (UTC)
        • No, I really enjoy it ;) But I'm leaving on holiday for two weeks; after that I'll see what still needs to be done... (Dewet 20:48, 26 Nov 2004 (UTC))

[edit] Extension

The first nominations was only given half a week (24 Nov to 28 Nov 2004). I propose to extend the deadline to 4 December 2004 and try get more South Africans Wikipedians to vote.--Jcw69 15:38, 28 Nov 2004 (UTC)

  • Sure, I'm fine with that. PZFUN 19:05, 28 Nov 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Deadline

Since we are at a tie for all articles, I extended the deadline to 5 December.

[edit] Big Five

I vote that we remove this listing. It is not South Africa specific, and would do much better on the science COTW. Any opinions? PZFUN 20:59, 2 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Agree--Jcw69 18:05, 4 Dec 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Africa-related regional notice board

I have created Wikipedia:Africa-related regional notice board.iFaqeer (Talk to me!) 05:38, Dec 7, 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Notice Board

I am not sure if the collaboration of the week theme is working. What do peopple generally think if I changed the collaboration of the week format to a South African message board to allow people ot contribute to South African-themed subjects in a more open way since there are a rather small number of people contributing. Páll 02:45, 17 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Maybe we could make it more general by changing it to a Africa-related COTW? (See Wikipedia:Africa-related regional notice board). And I don't want to be pushy; if we have enough people helping, South Africa does deserve focus in itself.iFaqeer (Talk to me!) 03:05, Dec 17, 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Message Board

Seeing as it's pretty quiet in here, I think I may list this page as defunct and instead direct people's attentions to the South African wikipedians' notice board that I created.

Let's improve these pages! Páll 01:32, 22 Dec 2004 (UTC)

That link doesn't work. Have you created it yet? I would want to at least link that and the Africa-related board to each other so members can build on each others' strengths.iFaqeer (Talk to me!) 01:49, Dec 22, 2004 (UTC)
