I think that you should add this picture to the Soul Society article. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Soul_Society.jpg Born2killx 18:40, 25 November 2006 (UTC)
Is there a fansub group that calls it "Spirit World" instead of "Soul Society"? —Tokek 21:21, 10 February 2006 (UTC)
- Not that I remember. --Chemicalist 20:03, 29 May 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Rokongai divisions update
Fixed the number of divisions in Rukongai. The summary book "Souls" released in Japan in March clarified the divisions of Rukongai by stating that there are 80 divisions for each cardinal direction. Thus West Rukongai 80 and East Rukongai 80 are two entirely separate districts.
[edit] Soul Society as a place name or description?
Soul Society: should it be just Soul Society, or 'the soul society'? There are arguments for both.
Soul Society:
- It is spelled in katakana as furigana with Japanese kanji, indicating it is not a regular word, but a place name, in which case it is grammatically incorrect to use the 'the' article in English.
- Soul Society sounds like a description/word to the English ear, but to the Japanese ear it may sound out of the ordinary and more like a proper name, like for example shinigami sounds to the English ear (even though it sounds a description/word and not a proper name in Japanese). This also may be why grammatically, in Japanese it is used as a simple place name, while in the English dub it is used as a word (to avoid cheesiness - naming a place 'Soul Society' in English sounds really awkward).
the soul society:
- It is used in the official English dub.
- It sounds proper in English (see also arguments for just Soul Society)
Personally I prefer sticking to our old distinction of Soul Society as a place name, but if the English dub gets popular (it's bound to), the amount of reverts will skyrocket if we use this. Any suggestions?

- I believe Soul Society should be used. It's a proper noun and the grammar will suck regardless. Also, we don't call Heaven "the heaven". --tjstrf 19:11, 14 September 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Reincarnation?
In the article it mentions:"A soul that dies in Soul Society is reincarnated on earth as a new human." Is this original research, or was this confirmed in the Manga and I just missed it? If this is fact, then would it not hold strong for the "Ichigo is the reincarnation of Kaien" theory? 07:48, 24 December 2006 (UTC)
- Point the first: It's from the manga, explained in Ishida's initial arc. Point the second: There is no argument that Ichigo is the reincarnation of Kaein. A very minorly similar hairstyle does not a reincarnation make!
- In fact, there is definitive proof that Ichigo is NOT the reicarnation of Kaein, because Kaein's soul was inextricably fused with that hollow's and doesn't have a seperate existance anymore. Assuming that the hollow was purified after its death as per normal, then what vestiges of Kaein's soul still exist are currently merged with some random Soul Society dweller. Also, this is not a discussion forum anyway. --tjstrf talk 10:07, 24 December 2006 (UTC)
