Southwestern Oregon Community College

Southwestern Oregon Community College is a college in Coos Bay, Oregon. It is Oregon's oldest community college[citation needed], founded in 1959. The college has about 3,000 students annually and has 60 full-time employees and 275 part-time instructors.

The college originally served Coos County western Douglas County, and in 1995 Curry County joined the district.


Southwestern Oregon Community College is in Coos Bay [1], Oregon famous for breathtakingly beautiful public beaches, nearby County, State, and Federal Forests, salmon, steelhead, and sturgeon-filled rivers, the Oregon Dunes [2], and endless outdoor recreation activites. It is Oregon's oldest community college[3] founded in May 1961 by the law creating Oregon’s network of independent community colleges. The college has about 9,000 students annually by offering everyone in-state tuition, on campus student housing,small classes of about 20, personal attention, and rich academic programs.
